Thanks very much for the encouraging words. I've felt very low since the mc but have had some up times too. The biggest problem, apart from the bleeding, is the tiredness and I have put this down to the loss of blood during the mc (apparently I lost quite a lot for a mc). I'm popping the iron and vitamins daily and doing as I'm told although my GP had suggested another week off work because of the lethargy, i'm going back to work tomorrow in the hope that routine will help me. I work for two surgeons who understand perfectly what I've been through and hopefully they will understand if I go home early!!!!

I've looked at various websites with forums and this one so far seems the best, hence posting my questions here.

I was sorry to hear that you've had 3 mcs and my heart goes out to you. We plan to try again but to just let nature takes its course (which is what we said about the last one - being in my 40's we knew things were not going to be easy). Thankfully I have a wonderful fiance who is just so supportive and has really kept me going over the last few weeks - he is a man in a million.

Once again thanks for your comments Clare.

"Periods after miscarriage"
Posted by dormouse 7 October  at  11:05

Hi there anyone who might be able to help. I'm 43 and had a miscarriage 3 weeks ago at 12 weeks. I bled very heavily at the time and had a D&C. Afterwards I had light bleeding (like day 3/4 of a period) and then just a 'drip' which continued until Thursday last week so no real stop in the bleeding. It then became heavier again - like a period. Could it be a period this soon after the miscarriage. All the websites I've looked at say its usual to have the first period about 4-6 weeks after a miscarriage and I can't find anything about an earlier period. So if anyone has any info I'd be grateful.
Thank you.

Hi there. I can only speak from experience and what other people have told me. I'm 43 and was pregnant for the first time and had my miscarrage at 12 weeks on the 17th September. I bled a lot during the miscarriage and for about a week after - befor two days of nothing and then profuse bleeding which only stopped 3 weeks later with the help of medication. The doctor says I 'should' have a period in the next week or so but having read lots of 'stuff' on the internet and in books it could happen anytime. From your point of view I think probably 4-6 weeks is the usual if you stop bleeding after the D&C. Hope this is of help. Dormouse

You should have a period between four to six weeks after a d&c.Though if you read some of the posts form others on here it can be shorter or longer!
If you are worried the best person to see will be your doctor.

sorry to hear your sad news, hope you find this forum as helpful and supportive as I have. There doesn't seem to be any such thing as 'normal' with our bodies, especially after miscarriage so don't worry too much if yours doesn't react the way the medical info says it should. I've had 3 m/c's over the last year or so and my periods still aren't back to normal after the last one in July and have been weird every month since. After the first 2 m/c's I got a light period within about 4 weeks but this last one has been completely different and it's taking much longer for my cycle to get back to normal. My last period lasted over 2 weeks (heavy then just spotting for a few days then heavier again for a few more days then back to spotting again, wondered if it was ever gonna stop!) and none of this is remotely normal for me. Think it does take your body a while to recover and it can be really worrying especially if you're anxious to try again straight away but from what I've read of other women's experiences and from my own the best thing to do seems to be to just try and relax and don't worry if things are a bit unsettled for a while. Know how hard that is but if you are wanting to try again it really is the best thing for you and any potential future pregnancies. The girls on this and the trying to conceive forum are a wealth of useful info, good advice and rock solid support if you have any questions or worries and please don't feel you're on your own in this cos we all understand what you're going through and we're here if you need us. Take care and message anytime if I can help,

much love,
Clare xxx
