I had a missed miscarriage 6 weeks ago today when I was 9 weeks. I had no bleeding but the scan showed 2 sacs but they where not developing. I was soooo upset, I had a D&C the next day. It was all very quick and I was very lucky to not be in too much pain afterwards. I took pain killers for a few days and the bleeding after the D&C stopped within a few days. I couldn't wait for nature to takes it course, all I wanted was it over and done with. I think its natural to still feel pregnant and even after the D&C your hormone levels are still high for a few weeks which is really cruel. I still haven't had an af after the mc and I would really like to have my af so I know my body is healing and that my cyles are returning to normal. I work for my family business so I only had 1 day off work and the weekend. It was hard but it kept me busy. I think your job would be harder to return to as you work with children. For the first 4 weeks after the D&C I was angry and everywhere I went I saw pregnant ladies. It will get easier but you need to do what is right for you.
I am thinking of you and your partner and sending you a big hug. Anytime you want to moan or just a chat please contact me.

Yesterday at 10 +1 I experienced some light bleeding. I went to the hospital to get it checked out expecting them to reassure me. Unfortunately the scan showed a gestational sac but no fetus. I've been given the choice of a ERPC under general anaesthetic, Misoprostol to induce the miscarriage or to wait for nature to take its course. Although I am bleeding lightly I've been told this could take some time. I'm feeling very shocked and confused (particularly as I still feel pregnant) and unsure which action to take. I know no-one can make the choice for me, but I would appreciate it if anyone has experienced any of these could let me know how it was for them. At the moment I'm feeling like to want to get it over and done with and I think I'm veering towards the ERPC. Also, how much time did you take off work? I'm a primary school teacher and my job's very busy. My school have said to take as long as I need, but I do need to keep them informed so they can make arrangements for my class. Thanks for your advice.

Hi Missteacher, I have been in a similar situation to you this month, although this is 7 months later than your message and you have clearly made your decision by now about the erpc or natural miscarriage. What did you decide in the end? I too am a junior teacher, and had bleeding at 8.5 weeks. The fetus etc was all there but no heartbeat. Decided straight away for the erpc and had it done 2 days after awful news - a Wed. All seemed to go well and was only there 5 hours. Just had period pains and average bleeding for about 10 days. Went back to work on the Monday (4 days later) but was very tearful for about 2 weeks. Still think I made right decision. Now waiting for next period to come so can try again!!! How are you getting on?

Thank you so much to all of you who have taken the time to respond and share your experiences. I have opted for the ERPC which is happening on Monday. I'm sure it won't be particularly pleasant but your replies have reassured me. I just feel like I want to draw a line under it and move on.
I'm just so sorry that so many people have to go through this but I feel grateful to have access to sites like this where people are able to share their thoughts and offer support.
Let's hope we all have better luck next time round!

I had a missed miscarriage just over four weeks ago. I should have been about 10 weeks but as I started bleeding we had a scan and it showed the baby had died at 7.5 weeks. I opted for the EPRC as I had had a complete miscarriage in August and what I was experiencing this time was much worse. The procedure itself was simple and was over quickly.I bled for about a week after and now am waitng for my period to arrive...hopefully it will be soon! Take careI can appreciate exactly how you are feeling. Nicki x

Hi there,
I had a missed miscarriage like you but had no bleeding and only found out at my scan at 11+4 weeks. I was given all the options and went for the medical management. Went into hospital the next day to take the first tablet that starts it all off and then went home after an hour. Then started to bleed the following day in the evening. Went into hospital then and the next day took the next dose to start the uterus to contract. It was quite painful but all day my husband and mum were allowed to stay with me and the nurses gave me different levels of pain relief as it got worse. After a few hours it finally happened. I had my own room all the time and my own bathroom. Had to keep everything I did in the loo so the hospital could monitor my bleeding and had an internal examination when I first went into so they could check how much I was bleeding.
I guess the decision is up to you. I know it's not easy but just go with your gut feeling.
After that I had 2 weeks off work. I went back and was ok but as the other lady said did cry at home most evenings and all tv programmes suddenly had baby stories going on!
Good luck and just to give you hope I'm now pregnant again - I waited for one period and then started trying again and it happened straight away and I'm now 16 weeks gone x

So sorry for your loss. I have had 9 miscs in total and each time i miscarried at home. (my choice). Felt right for me. Had a blighted ovum in Feb, no heartbeat on scan, but told them i wanted to go home and let it happen naturally. Took 2 weeks for anything to happen. For me it was a lot more painful than a period and blood loss can seem huge! Do what you feel is right for you. It is a physical and very emotional time, which can hit you when you least expect it. Everyone will be pregnant! Good luck with future pregnancies. ( we have 3 children now)

I found out at my 12 week scan 3 weeks ago that my baby had no heartbeat. I was given the options just as you have been, and I felt strongly that I wanted it over as quickly as possible. I went in for D & C the day after, and I must say the hospital staff were wonderful (with the exception of one nurse in theatre who insisted on shouting "have we dealt with that evac yet" which hurt.
I have had no medical problems since - just a bit of bleeding for about a week.
Came back to work after 5 days - big mistake. I'm a lawyer and my job is very stressful. I also feel I've had no support from my employers. My advice would be to give yourself plenty of time to sort out your emotions - crying at work is no fun!
My heartfelt empathy goes out to you and those around you.

hi sorry to hear about your m/c, its such a hard thing to go through. ive had 5 m/c over the last 2 years all happened natural and started bleeding for about the 5-6 days. i like yourself would have to get it over and done with if it could take some time. my last m/c was in september and i am still off work, i got signed off work the day i found out i was pregnant and 2 weeks later started bleeding, so my doctor has signed me off till new year so i can get my head together. everyone is different but dont rush back if you dont feel up to it. i had about 5-6 weeks off after each of my other m/c's and when returning after one of them had a massive panic attack. take as much time off as you need, your health is more important than a job. take care and think of yourself and no one else y x

Hi So sorry for your loss. I has my 2nd m/c 2 weeks ago. My 1st one I had no choice but to let it come naturally as it started to happen soon after my scan that told me there was no heart beat. This was very painful and had to stay in hospital, I had to collect everything I passed to give to the nurses, I saw my baby there in the bowl and it broke my heart. It was only very small but it was there. After this m/c I decided to have the ERPC as I didn't want to put myself through that again although this time there was no baby growing just a sac. But it was not as bad as I thought you are put to sleep and its only a 15 minute procedure. and you are usually allowed home the same day. I had a bit of bleeding the next day then since then just on and of brown discharge. I had 3 weeks of after 1st m/c and so far had 4 weeks this time but only because I am now waiting for results of possible molar pregnancy. You need time to get your head together. You have to think if you were at work could you concentrate but also I find sitting at home worse as everyhting on the telly is about pregnancy. Only you can decide which route to take but I hope this has helped for you. Take care and keep in touch it really does help to talk even more on those bad days. Feel free to message any time. Lots of love Vic xxxx
