"Feeling numb!"

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share what has happened to me. I found out that i was pregnant the day i missed my period! for one week afer i was sick all day had sore breasts and was so tired! then suddenly the symptoms disappeared just a bit of tenderness to the breasts was left, all my friends told me not to worry and that i was lucky not to have the sickness etc.. but i was worried from this point on. At 7 weeks (last week) i began to notice a pinkiness to the excessive discharge i had already experienced. Concerned i made an appt to see the doctor who was not overly concerned but referred me to the EPAU for a scan 2 days later.

The pinkiness came and went but the night before i was due for the scan the pinkiness turned to bleeding still fairly light, went to A&E who couldnt do anything and told me to wait for my scan in the morning. Went for my scan on monday (2days ago) and was told even though i was supposed to be 8 weeks the scan was showing a pregnancy of 4/5 weeks which could indicate my dates were wrong or an early pregnancy failure.

Unfortunately i knew my datew were accurate and went home in tears and was told to come back in 10 days for a repeat scan. since then i have begun to bleed heavily with clots and the odd cramping pains. I know just want this nightmare to end so we can pick ourselves up and try again.

"Miscarriage at 6 weeks"
Posted by natty340 12 February  at  11:33

Hi everyone. I posted on here a few weeks ago so i thort id share my experience and information to others. Im 24 and this was my first pregnancy, it wasnt planned and was abit of a shock but me and my boyfriend of 2yrs were excited. Throughout i had stomach cramps (like light period pains) and slight lower back ache. Last tuesday, at 6 weeks pregnant i got to work suffering from quite strong period pains/cramp and when i went to the toilet i was bleeding like a period, more than just spotting which id had the week before. I rang my nurse and she told me the only thing i could do as i was only 6 weeks was go home and rest and phone her the following monday! Thanx!!

I went home absolutley crying my eyes out, spoke to mum who was determined to get someone to see me, either at my doctors or the Early Pregnancy Unit. After several phone calls back and fourth between my nurse and mum (the nurse telling my mum the EPU wouldnt see me coz of being only 6 weeks) i got an appointment at the EPU the following morning with no problems! Went there wednesday morning, had a normal scan and an internal scan to be told i was having an incomplete miscarriage.

Yesterday (sunday) was the first day i didnt have to take any piankillers. I knew i was miscarrying purely on the pain and the amount of blood. You can definatley tell if your just spotting or more than spotting.

So if anyone is between 6 - 12 weeks, having any problems, bleeding like a period and worrying, you can get scanned at the EPU no matter what your nurse says.

Take care everyone x x x

"Miscarriage at 6 weeks too!"

Hi. I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks too! This is my second. The first happened the day after i tested positive before i coule even get to the doctor. I had to go to hospital they said it was a chemical pregnancy! We have been trying for nearly a year and are desperate for a baby.

I've always had bad periods and terrible pains so a few weeks ago i was booked in for a laparoscomy (camera inside you) to see what was going on and to my total joy was sent home because i was pregnant. I couldnt believe my luck. We tried not to get excited, but you do. I counted each day and when i started feeling sick i was soo excited. Then on Sat i had brown spotting and by Sunday morning i started bleeding. I went to the EPU on Monday. I was still testing positive so they done an internal scan and the pregnancy was gone. I was devastated.

So now i need to get through a few days of pains and cramps while it bleeds away. I've cried for 2 days. I thought this was the one, i was due just before Xmas. My partner is devastated too.

You feel soo alone and blame yourself but it happens to soo many people. Guess its just one of these things but i havn't gave up hope and we'll be trying again as soon as we can. Surely 3rd time lucky fingers crossed xxxxxxxx

hi, I am going through kind of the same thing. im 24 and I was pregnant with my boyfriend of two years and the pregnancy wasn't planned but we were happy about it. I am going through miscarriage as I type this. I was 10 weeks pregnant.

I started spotting two days ago and got an early scan yesterday. They couldn't see a baby so now I am being left to miscarry and if it doesn't happen within a week I have to go to the hospital to have a DnC I think it is called. The midwife is going to call me at the weekend to see how the miscarriage is going.

All I have been doing for the last day is crying.

Does anyone know what I can expect to happen next?

I was the same as you I was 9 weeks nearly 10 when day one i saw the tiniest spot of blood and it put me in a panic. The next day it was heavier but wasnt much only there when I went to the toilet but still went to the doctors and had a scan. they said cervix was closed and they could see the sac in the womb. They said maybe was just stress and some women bleed but I knew different. i didnt have any pain at that time. i knew I was going to lose the baby because the doctor said the baby was only about 6 weeks and they couldnt see the baby only the sac. I figure my baby had died some time before and I was just losing it as Id had a scan 3 weeks previous when I was 6weeks! There was nothing I could do except go home and wait. That night the pain kicked in and the next morning I came out from shower and that was it. I started bleeding heavily and passing large clots and other things. I managed to go to get a scan they said wasnt much left in the womb, and I had a d and c that same day. They say theres nothing they can do and its true until you lose it. In a way im lucky I dont live in UK and where i am you can get any medical treatment you want aslong as you pay for it. I had 3 scans when I wanted . When I was in UK they wouldnt give me one even tho I was worried that i was having an ectopic pregnancy again as id had one previously. Doctor basically said until it ruptured theres nothing they could do! great comfort that.

im 20 was diagnosed with a heart shaped womb about a year ago as well as polysystic ovaries and told my chanced of conception were slim, i was told i was four times as likely to miscarry or deliver very prem. i went to the doctors in jan 08 as i was spotting and as usual the docs said nothing was wrong!!! i went back 3 weeks ago and they still didnt know wat it was, i had been bleeding for 7 weeks!! 2 days later i started getting bad period pains and bleeding even heavier. i had a miscarriage 2 weeks ago, i was also on the pill and didnt know i was 6 weeks pregnant! the doctors refused to see me so i had to go through it on my own and am finding it very hard to come to terms with it. i know who u feel.

hiya were your pains really strong it just i have got period like pains but not verypainfull alot of other people are telling me that this is compleatly normal and so has the doctor this is my first prgnancy and im approching 5.5 weeks and im so scared of loosing this baby.x

Last week when everything was happening the pains were very strong, they were like very painful period pains which i had to take paracetomal to control. Id had light period/cramps like pain all the way through which are normal so unless acompanied with period like bleeding i wouldnt worry to much, I know its easier said than done. I also lost my pregnancy symptons a couple of days before. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions dont hesitate to ask me. I hope everything goes ok for you x x

i think everyone telling u its normal is because the majority of the time, cramps are normal. I think deep down u would know if it wasnt and therefore that is the time to get urself seen, so if ur REALLY worried go to ur doc.
"Always best to go to the doctors or a&e - they can't refuse to see you"

Hi there

I am 36 years old and last week I was 11 weeks pregnant when I noticed some brown spotting. Everyone told me it was normal but it turned into blood so I called my doctor, who then sent me for a scan at the EPU.

The scans showed that the babies (i was pregnant with twins) had died at 9 weeks and 2 days. I was offered to have everything removed and booked an appointment for a week's time.

Three days later the most unexepcted thing happened where i started to experience very very heavy bleeding (it was pouring out of me and I had huge liver-like clots) and I started to have painful contractions every few minutes. I called an ambulance and was rushed to casualty. after being put on a drip and given pain relief and then morphine the pain subsided a little. After a few hours two gynaecologists came to see me. they had a look inside and removed a large piece of tissue (about the size of a potato) which was blocking the opening of my womb and was causing me to have labour pains. Once that was removed the pain went away - they kept me in over night in case of any further problems and in the morning I had another scan which showed that nearly all of the tissue had gone. I was also told that I have a heart shaped womb (bi-cornuate uterus) and was told that the risks of damage from a D&C were higher due to the shape inside the womb.

I think the reason I am writing this down is to say that even though spotting can be normal i think everyone should get it checked out.

Also if you have any abnormalities with your womb shape, check first about risks of a d&c.

And finally, ask more about what happens when you actually have a miscarriage. I was just told they'd be some heavy bleeding - but nothing prepared me for what I went through yesterday. I've had heavy periods in the past, but nothing like this loss of blood and no-one prepared me for the pain or the contractions.
