| Thread started by: | "Help i dont know what to expect" Posted by cassied 5 July at 10:12
I was told on Thursday (today is Sat) at my 12week scan that my baby had no heartbeat and that I had lost it at 7weeks. They have sent me home until Tuesday when I will go for another scan. I am loosing a brown discharge and having strong period pains along with the odd sharp stabbing pain. I dont know what to expect if I decide to go naturally. Is it as messy as I fear? is it as painful as I fear?. How long does it take? I know of people who have lost babies but don't want to upset them by asking them what it was like for them. I really feel like I have been left with no information as to what to expect only a leaflet on my 3 options on how it can come out (how do you say that nicely???) I think I am leaning towards taking the tablets. Is there anyone out there with some advice and experience for me?

I feel for you. I had m/c confirmed around 7 weeks but think that I lost it around 6 weeks.
I let nature take its course for 3 weeks but it was still incomplete so I opted for ERPC in the end. My DH was worried and tried to persuade me to wait longer but I felt i needed it to be over so I could start to move on.
The ERPC was fine, very little pain just minor discomfort for a few days and varying levels of bleeding for around 2 weeks after.
You need to make the decision that feels right for you. Don't put any pressure on yourself to get 'back to normal' in a hurry as it's important you take all the time you need.

Hi there So sorry that you are going through this difficult process. I am just coming to the end of my 2nd miscarriage done naturally at home, and they were different from each other. This last one began Mon 30th June, and I had waited a week since being told it was not viable on an early scan.I was 8 and a half weeks preg, but it had died at about 6 wks. This miscarriege has involved very heavy cramping pain, lots of bleeding and much loss of 'products'. It has been painful and a bit alarming, but I do think it's possible to do it at home, in peace, where you can go through it and mourn the passing. You need to get help if you bleed continuously heavily like a haemorrage, or if you get symptoms you feel out of control with or scared by. I got support from friends who checked up on me (even tho they tried to persuade me to go to hospital), made sure I kept my fluids up, and my blood sugars by eating regularly. When the cramping pains started in earnest, I took time off work and simply stayed at home resting and letting the process happen. Nearly a week later, the bleeding is brownish and has nearly stopped. I am tired and sad, but glad it's over. I wish you the best for all of this. Franny126

I'm a bit of a novice at this. I'm sorry your going through this S'heart! I've never taken any tablet personally. I've had 5 MC's. Each one I did quietly and calmly at home. For me it felt right and I could take things at my own pace. Rest, take time off and be in control. But everyone is unique and you must do what's right for you. Try not to fight it and it will be easier, keep as calm as you can under the c'stances..thinking of you x

Hi, I am sorry you are going through this. I miscarried naturally at 12 weeks on the 11th of June the day before my 12 week scan.It started with 2 days of brown spotting and then I woke up at 4 am with normal red bleeding and cramping and I had to go to A&E. I passed all the tissue and probably the sack in the hospital toilet together with a lot of blood ( about 1 big pad every 20 minutes). I did have some cramps but as I suffer from very painfull periods for me it was actually less painfull than having an actual period. This type of very heavy bleeding lasted for about 4 hours and then it went down to medium bleeding for 2-3 days and then to light and finally spotting on and off. All the bleeding and spotting lasted for 2 weeks. My hcg levels are not yet down to normal (still getting and faint + on the hpt) so I went to the GP and had a blood test yesterday. I will know next week. I have never had a D& E so I can not help you with that. I hope I have helped, let me know if you want any more info. I wish you good luck with anything you decide.
Take care
Tania
