"About the procedure..."
Posted by nicole2657 30 April  at  13:54

I am so sorry for asking this, but I have just found out that I am pregnant and do not know anyone who has had an abortion beofre.

Can someone please tell me if it hurts when the procedure is being done? will I feel any pain??

I still havent made my decision on what to do yet, but the prospect of this is absolutely terrifying me!

Thankyou so much x x x

i agree i would say surgical is better. i had a medical one about 7 years ago now, i dont regret it as i was only 17 at the time and i wouldnt have waht i have now.

I was about 12 - 13 weeks also and got period like pain. IThe nurse later told me it was contractions as they give you a tablet to make you go into labour. this lasted for a couple of hours until the baby passed. I also was surprised how well it was formed, it had all its fingers and toes and this was quite a traumatic experience. it will stay with me forever.

I wish i had known the full extent of what an abortion involved. i didnt know i would have to be admitted to hospital and stay all day.

maybe you should speak to your doctor and explain how you feel. no-one can make your mind up for you it has to be your choice. good luck to you whatever your decision x
"From my experience"

I had a medical termination, because that was the only option offered to me. My mother had a surgical termination when I was four. From both mine and her experiences, if you decide to have a termination, we recommend that if you have the option ask for a surgical termination.

Medical - the only physical pain I experienced was something like a terrible period pain. Some women experience nausea and vomiting, but I'm not sure how common that is. Most women also have to stay in hospital overnight, but I was lucky and it was over quicker than normal. The pain is mainly emotional, as you do experience passing the foetus and depending on how far on you are, you may or may not be able to see it. I was 13 weeks and I could see it, so for me, I was traumatised. I was angry that the doctor did not tell me that the foetus would be so fully formed. Maybe I should have researched, but it's not something I wanted to face at the time.

Surgical - (from what my mum said) you are asleep during the operation. She said she felt pain for a few weeks after, but she did not experience seeing the foetus, which is why I wish I had been offered this instead. Obviously, either way it is still a traumatic experience, but if it is for the best, then you know you are doing the right thing.

I hope this helps... keep your chin up.

It really depends on what procedure you choose. Medical or Surigal. Both will be emotionally painful.
I have had both procedures so if you do decide to go ahead with a termination then please feel free to send me a message and i will let you know what happens as best i can.
