Advice appreciated
I had a medical termination a week ago. I have yet to find out if it was successful, but I was hoping that someone here could advise me.
I was about 6-7 weeks pregnant when I had the treatment. The procedure was fairly simple, though painful. I felt nothing after the first tablet, and I had the 4 inserted the day after. I had vomiting as a side effect and started bleeding approximately an hour after. Within the next 2 hours, the pain got bad and I felt cramping, I passed a lot of blood and about 4 substantial blood clots. The bleeding slowed, and although I am still bleeding now it's minimal, and becoming like the end of a period. My abdomen feels tender but not 'painful', and this feeling has virtually disappeared. I wondered if anyone could give me advice? I'm petrified it hasn't worked, though I'm sure I'm over reacting. I experienced morning sickness and loss of appetite when pregnant, and virtually the day after these symptoms stopped. I haven't had any signs of pregnancy since. Does this sound right to anyone who has had a successful medical termination?
Thanks

Thanks
thanks for your experience uncertain, I imagine it is the hormone levels.
Casey, I don't quite understand what you mean? I don't want to be pregnant, otherwise I wouldn't have had an abortion. I have taken a test to check whether it was successfully aborted, as is the medical advice given, I just took it a few days earlier than I was meant to. Please don't misunderstand and think I was not using contraceptives on ANY occasion, in fact I was on dianette and using condoms when I fell pregnant.
Thanks for all your answers

One more thing
thanks for the advice Lolly, though one final question
I took a pregnancy test today, 2 weeks 2 days after the abortion, and it came up as 2 strong positive lines. I was told to take a test 3 weeks after and it SHOULD show negative, if not, the week after, and if it still shows negative, I need further consultation.
I know my boyfriend thinks I'm stupid but I'm highly concerned. We have had protected sex twice since the abortion, and I have started bleeding 2 days ago like a normal period, but I am concerned with this strong result. Any advice on this?

Hi jean
Hi Jean I had medical termination 13 days ago and still tests showing positive pregnant. Hormone levels still high but they are dropping slowly. I think it will be another while yet before I get a negative result. Hope that's of help. x

3 weeks on.... negative
Hi Jean,
I had a medical abortion Oct30th-31st (took second set of pills 31st), and I have just done my pregnancy test at 3 weeks and it's come back negative. Like you, I had concerns about failure (see my separate thread on the topic), and I think it sounds like I lost less blood then you; certainly no

That sent too quickly...
...certainly no substantial clots. I didn't have any morning sickness but I did have breast tenderness which abated about 5-7days after the procedure. Like you, I have also had sex a couple of times since, and tbhis also stimulated more bleeding with me as well.
I didn't take a test before 3 weeks so I can't tell you I had previously had any positives after the abortion, but even if it does come back positive for a while, this can reflect that the time taken for hormones to return to pre-pregnancy levels is individual to each woman. The chances of a continuing viable pregnancy after a medical abortion are low, around 0.4% and 0.6% . The (very slightly) more common risk is for "retained products of conception" to be removed, either by the woman on her own (this can take up to 4 weeks), or with the help of surgery in the event of any infection risk.
Hope this helps...and alll comes through this time.

Do you want
Hi Jean I wonder if you want to be pregnant, why would you have taken the risk otherwise? No judgement, just interested. Casey

Sounds about right.
I was as far along as you when I had my termination, and had the same procedure. I had labour contractions for about 4 hours. I had a lot of clots as well, but it's different for everyone. I hadn't actually passed it on that day though, so my contractions started up again a couple of days later. So I wouldn't worry, the stuff they give you is pretty thorough, and even if it doesn't work, and from the sound of it, it has worked, I doubt a pregnancy could survive the physical trauma that the abortion meds put you through anyway. I had the same worries as you, but you can tell it's over because you can feel the symptoms and hormones lift, like yours did.
Best wishes.
