.not just 9 weeks.
Hey, I just wanted to let you know that its not just up to 9 weeks that you can have a medical abortion. There is the option of the late medical abortion (up to 16 weeks), and the only difference is that you get a higher dosage of one of the drugs. I had my medical abortion al 11 weeks, I had to wait a month between seeing my GP(I was 6 weeks when I saw him) and my appointment for a scan and so on, then another week before going to the hospital- but then waiting times vary with the area. I was not impressed with the length of the wait, but it did give the time to really think over the decision. I was also worried that I had passed/was coming close to the 9 week limit, but the doctor reassured me that I could go down the medical route up to 16 weeks. It may vary depending on the doctors, and the hospital procedures, so give them a ring to check. Have a chat with the doctor the next time you go, see whats available.

Case study for feature on medical abortion for women's magazine
I have read a lot of stories on here that suggest that abortions turned out much worse that expected or informed. I want to hear your story. I am looking for women in their early 20s to mid 30s. It has to be a medical abortion (i.e. taken the pills). Please email me at joannevellul@googlemail.com

2 doctors agreeing...
this is what scares me.
(1) having the baby would harm the woman's mental or physical health more than having the abortion. This involves the woman explaining how she feels about the pregnancy to a doctor. (2)having the baby would harm the mental or physical health of any children she already has.
This may sound strange but what do they consider when they say yes or no? I mean is it mental stress, not being able to look after a child etc

Yes
As long as you book it straight away there is no reason they wont be able to do it with in a week which is how long it took for me to get mine done.
Think hard about it though, it's not an easy thing to come to terms with for some people, even if you know its for the best.

Think it through before you do
I had an abortion when i was 17 because my twin sister was pregnant at the same time and my parents kicked her out and didnt speak to her i didnt want to put them through the both of us. So i knew what i had to do.
3years on and im pregnant again with the same fiance and im totally wracked with guilt and suffering from depression just knowing all the developments my baby made before i killed it is killing me i can't enjoy this pregnancy and seeing my twin sister so happy with hers knowing mine would be her age and my parents are fine with her now they see her and the kids every week.
My advice is to really really think about this. you could make it work i totally regret having it it was the biggest mistake of my life and i cant get over it.
Read up abit more about pregnancy see the stage your baby is now.
If you do decide to have it a pill can be taken before 7 weeks i think. i had mine at 11 weeks i had to be put to sleep and well i don't like to think about the rest.
Anyways let me know what you decide.
Remember it might not affect you now (it didnt affect me until i got pregnant again) but if it does its the most painful thing knowing what you've done.

Hey
iv just recently had a medical abortion, (regret it soooo much, so please be sure) and i got an appointment in a day so all depends on the area, type in marie stopes on google and see if theres a clinic in your area, and yes i did get it on the nhs, you need to get a medical note from your doctor. good luck please make the right decision, because the guilt and regret is emense to me, take care

Its your decision
on the nhs it really depends on what area you are in. i had one in cheshire i found out at 5 weeks and it was done within 10 days but you have to be sure this is what you wantcuz 2 doctors have to agree to it, and when i had one there were about 6 out of the 10 girls crying their eyes out because they realised it was the wrong decision after theyd gone thru with it. however im up north now and when i wanted one i saw the doctor at 8 weeks and then had to wait 5 weeks see the family planning(im over 21) so i was 13 weeks then had to get a referal to the hospital so i was 15 nearly 16 weeks before i could get it done. right now the medical abortion Nhs hospitals dont like to give them because of the after care you cant really get any and 15 people have died from the tablet since its release, but if your adamant that you want the tablet then youll prob have to travel to one of the marie stopes clinics which are in manchester, leeds, newcastle ect because they will give it to you if refered by yur gp but again this depends on the area. good luck and make sure you know for sure what you want you cant go back on this decision. xx

She is right...
...many people who are young and in the best stage of life have babies and still have a life. I am 20 and in my second year of university, I have a boyfriend like you and based on my circumstances and our finance we were going to have a termination i was about 4 weeks when i booked in for the first appointment...i simply couldnt do it and i feel bad with myself for even thinking of going ahead with it. Im now 10-11weeks and am happy with my decision.
I will always tell people on here how i went about looking into the termination and what to expect Doctors advice to be, but i will also always tell people to think about the decision and try to think past the worry of finance or family ect and go with what you truely feel because that will be what will allow you to live with and accept your decision or regret it.

You dont sound totally sure
Hi,
Because you said that you hate being in this situation, I am going to try to talk you out of this, so please bear with me.
You are probably feeling really scared and worried and maybe even sick with the pregnancy hormones. You probaly have not finished studying or training and are some way off from being financially secure. Maybe you dont know your boyfriend very well, or dont have his support from this pregnancy. So on paper, deciding with your head, abortion seems like the only option.
But hang on a minute. What if you keep your baby? The sickness will be over in a few weeks, 2-3 tough years of living with less money will get you financially secure, and you will have the added bonus of holding your very own gorgeous baby, which is so captivating that you will end up turning off the telly and watching your baby instead in the evenings.
There is never an ideal time to have a baby, but the fact that you are now pregnant is a good indication that the ideal time could be in about 8 months time.
I have been following this forum since September and I read about so many broken hearted young girls who regret their abortion. Post abortion syndrome is much more than feeling a bit sorry for a few weeks after the termination. It casts a huge shadow over the rest of your life. My aunt in law is going on 60 and had abortions when in her 30s and she and her family are still suffering.
It will take huge strength and courage to hold onto this tiny life, but you are young and surely strong. Plenty of young girls have their babies at your age, and I dont know anybody who says 'I regret having my baby'.
Take Care, Big Hugs
Siobhan

Hey
What your doctor might do is tell you to got the the BPAS (british pregnancy advisory sevice) If you google it it will be there. Depending on ur area this might be what the doctor tells you to do but other than that the doctor will should get a refferal fo some point in the following week. Then the termination will happen one week after that.
hope this helps x

After care by bpas
Hi Kirst87 It is a shame that the staff are really upset at what they are doing. There is some training available if you want to learn about these issues.
