Im thinking of breast feeding...

Just wondered if any of you girls breast feed but also exspress via a pump for when u out and about in public?

I went to breast feeding classes this week and MW said its best not to let them have a bottle whilst breast feeding but she said some babies do both she just woudnt advise it. so i was wondering if any of you girls do it? and have you had any problems with your babies becoming less intrested in the breast because there on bottle?

i've never given bottles but........

.......... i'm sure it would be fine, when theyre hungry they're hungry you know..........! with feeding in public i know what you mean about being embarrassed but i've always found somewhere you can go, e.g baby changing room etc and you'll learn to feed before you leave the house, in the car etc..... i alway have muslins or a shawl to hand that you can jut drape so no one can see anything if im sat in the car or whatever......... my little girl is 7 months now and still bf and it's such a lovely experience....... just make sure you have some lansinoh cream and breast pads for the first few weeks and get some dinners in the freezer............! good luck anyway hunni.......... danica and cadene 7 months

Thnx for replys

yes i have both tomme tippie and avent bottles ready for when i need to use them... i just thought i would breast feed at home and when im out i would give her expressed milk in bottle... but the 2 women who were at ante natal classes said you will not care about people being embaressed etc, you know your doing the right thing for your child so the people staring tend to not bother you as its a natural thing what you are doing. I feel better and a bit more confident to breast feed in public, but we'll see how it goes.

Thanks for your help girls

Hey lucy,

Hey Lucy,

I noticed your post in the forum and wanted to get in touch.

I have got together with my friend a breastfeeding mum of 4 and ex midwife, and written an ebook outlining facts, myths, advice and tips that surround breastfeeding, weaning, expressing and nutrition.

We decided to create it cos like many mums we were constantly faced with conflicting advice whether it was from our own mum or doctor.

The ebook is accessible at anytime and is environmentally friendly as no printing is involved!

We know that breastfeeding matters and are serious about spreading the beneficial facts!

Please let me know if you have any questions, email me info@healthybreastfedbaby.com

Thank You for reading!

Hi hun

We were recommended not to use a bottle before 6 weeks, the reason given to us was that the baby may get confused between breast / bottle before they get properly used to it, I don't know if that's true or not. I know some people do this earlier with no problem so I guess it kind of depends on the baby. Since 6 weeks, I leave expressed bottles if me and OH go out and my mum babysits, or sometimes it's nice for OH to be able to feed her too I did find that Holly swiftly rejected the Avent bottles I originally bought, and after a recommendation from one of tbe ladies on B+T I now use the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles, Holly loves them. The teat and bottle are shaped in a special way so the baby sucks in the same way as they do on the breast, and I think they are fab! And Holly definately has not lost interest in my boobs, haha as is, she looooves them lol! It's not uncommon for breastfeeding mothers to express bottles. At the end of the day it's your baby / boobs!
