Formula questions

Hi everyone!

My daughter is 11 weeks old. In hospital the nursery sisters started her on Similac advanced formula, I was not happy about it because I thought they were suppose to ask me what my plans were with regards to feeding.

One week after being discharged I was re-admitted with wound infection and was in hospital for a week, my breastmilk went away due to all the medication and anasthetic used in theatre, we were forced to go onto formula from the 2nd week on, and we started our baby on Similac advance.

From the start she was crying all day long and I battled to get her to sleep during the day, her tummy was also (still is) very bloated, if I tap lightly with my fingers its sounds hollow, deff gas.

So we changed from Similac advance to Similac lactose free, from the 2nd day we could see a difference, she was calmer and burped easier, but still didnt want to sleep alot during the day. the dr said to put her back on the old formula every 2nd week to see if she can handle lactose, she did very well on the old formula with the 1st try, we put her back on the lactose free just to make sure, her stools were wattery and she got terrible nappy rash, also crying again non stop.

We decided to change formula and stay away from Similac, she is now on NAN, very happy somedays and other days still the crying. Her stools are perfect and I get up to 3 per day now, where in the passed only got 1 every 3rd day. She still doesnt want to sleep during the day and I find this odd seeing that she is still so tiny?

She seems to be hungry all the time, I cannot get her onto a 4 hour routine!!!! She wants to eat every 2 - 3 hours and the formula instructions says only 5 bottles per day? she drinks between 6 - bottles per day? I dont know what to do! My mom and another family member said that milk is not enough anymore and that she should go onto rice cereal, but I see that the cereal starts at 4 months, what should I do?

Sorry for the essay, I realise its very long, but had to explain evrything, I do not want to keep changing her from one formula to the next.

PLEASE HELP!

A friend told me this

she sort of had the same problem. She would basically mix abit of rice cereal in her milk in the bottle. But remember you will need to make sure the nipple is a 3or 4 and not a 1 or 2 cos it wont pass through. Test it out yourself before you give it to check on the suction. Its ok for babies to have this at 3 months. Mine did! As for babies drinking every 2 to 3 hours its ok. My girl would demand the same. Every baby is different. I also started giving her water inbetween. Like 2 ounces an hour before her milk feed until eventually she would take her milk ev 3 and half to 4 hours. If you have a problem with your baby passing stools every 3 days...give raisin juice diluted in water and guaranteed she will poop. I tried all different formulas and it didnt work for her. Raisins did...hope this helps..
