House/financial query!!

Hi There
I am looking for some advice for my sister in law. She and her boyfriend bought a house togeter in october last yr. They both paid the same amount into a joint account to cover mortgage, bills etc. Anyway - he has now said he wants to split up, she is not a financial position to keep the house on her own. He is older than her and in my opinion takes advantage of her naivity. He said yesterday that she should just sign the house over to him (!!!!) but I have explained to her that he will have to buy her out!!! I wondered if someone would be able to advise me on what she should do next. Is it a case of see a solicitor, get house valued?!?! I ve never been in a situation like this so some advice would be great!!!
Many Thanks!

Mediation is an option that may help - cost effective and humane!

I have just seen your message and it may be too late now - as they own the house together your sister in law has a strong position in the eyes of the law and even if she is signing it over she should take into account any financial contributions she may have made up to that date. She can go to solicitors but another option is Family Mediation - this is a cost effective way to resolve issues that arise when a relationship breaks down - whether the parties are married or not - she should ensure that at least one of the mediators is legally trained and she can do this either with a solicitor or without - I was a family law Barrister and now practice as a legal mediator in London - if you want any more info just look at our website www.familymediationinwandswort h.com
I hope this helps

Correct website address for mediation!
