My parents got divorced when I was 17. I was devestated at the time, but looking at them both now I see that it was all for the best. I used to be against divorce but now I'm not. If it makes 2 people happier to be apart, and they've tried everything to make it work, then why carry on? You've only got one shot at life, why waste it being miserable? What's everyone else's thoughts on this?

I think it's better for parents and children that they just split up and get on with their separate lives rather than make everyone miserable. I think it's a bit myth that 'keeping the family together' is the best solution.

I kind of agree with both of you but at the same time I get the impression that there are a lot of wives and husbands who make no attempt at all to salvage their marriage, they give up when the going gets tough. Marriage is about sticking together through all experiences, no matter how tough. Obviously if there's abuse involved, I can fully understand any partner who doesn't stick around.
