Separated and wanting to go travailing with son for a year

I have a 8 year old Son and have been separated from his father for five years. He has a new partner with twins.

Recently I have been feeling like I would like to go travailing with my son for a year or so, maybe live in another country for a while. I know that his dad would not agree to this, and my son would naturally not want to go. because he generally does not what to do anything if you ask him.

But I really feel that it would be good for us both, learn a new language, make us more confident, my son hates school here anyway.

But would I be selfish for taking him away from his dad. And going against his wishes.

You can only take your son out of the country for up to a month without his fathers permission , any longer and you need to have written consent from him.

An option?

Would it be possible for your son to live with his dad during the year you're away and then come out to visit you once a month or so? It would be tough on your son to make him go when he doesn't want to, plus he'd be leaving behind his schoolfriends... maybe he could come live with you during half-terms and the summer holidays?
