david have you actually spent much time with kids? they go through the whole gamut of emotions in the blink of an eye!! during the course of my work im required to record emotional states / responses etc of kids and they are forever flitting from one thing to the next!!! what is devestating one moment is totaly forgotten the next!! sorry but i think having this sort of thing would cause parents to stress over something they cant see , therefore cant make an accurate judgement on, and also they cant change it - how helpless would they feel?? sorry i dont like the idea

Whole thread for the following message:

"Augmented talisman"

Hi all, I'm David I'm a student,
I'm currently thinking on a project related to the connection between parents and child. I'm creating a device who use the metaphore of a modern charm, amulet, talisman.

This device can be given to a kid (approx from 3 or 4 years old) when he/she starts to being distant from the parents (example: in the nursery school).

The device control the emotive and health state of the kid by monitoring the heart activity and the stress, including while they sleep.

Each emotion causes a detectable physical response in the body:

* Fear is felt as a heightened heartbeat, increased flinch response, and increased muscle tension.
* Anger, based on sensation, seems indistinguishable from fear.
* Sadness is often experienced as a feeling of tightness in the throat and eyes, and relaxation in the arms and legs.
* Shame can be felt as heat in the upper chest and face.

If the child has suddenly big emotionals pick the "charme" will send a signal to the mother/father via wireless.

The idea is to increase the alredy innate parent's (seems more of the mother) 6th sense on their offsprings with a concrete digital 7th sense.

The shape of the device could be as simple as the image of two pendants, one for the kid (monitor) and one for the mother (receiver); without the invasive image of sensors or alarms etc.

I would like to keep the same misticism of a charm joined with an added concrete technological feature, a hidden secret.

Since I read discussions on the mobile phone for child, the right or not to monitore them, I was really interested in your comments and I believe you are the right group to comment on my idea;

that's why this could be the technology You love to hate...

thanks for your attention,

David Artuffo, (Italy)
