I am hoping someone out there has any idea? I heard ages ago that there was an N.H.S insentive to get G.Ps to offer severly obese patients free gym membership to help them loose weight. I have been suffering from long term illness which has left me stupidly overweight as well as major muscle wastage and want to build my strength up before gaining employment. If anyone has any information, however small please let me know. Many thanks Tracey x

Hi, Ive just been given gym membership by my doctor, it's actually only 12 sessions, anymore sessions are down to the secific gym, some do have a slight cost of around £1 a week.....less then i pay now. The scheme where I live is called "up & running".
Hope this helps

I have made enquiries today regarding the above at my g.p. He didn't know anything about it and said he will get back to me.
I am not sure wether he is telling me the truth or doesn't want this to be coming out of his budget?
Did you get any decent replies to your enquiries. If so, please le me know what you have found out.

You deserve the help, you just have to ask for it.... and you will make good use of it...if your GP says no ask why..demand it ,..if you fancy doing it thats halfway to a healthier you already! A GP earns over £100 thousand a year..make him/her work for it..And you want work? perfect, say you are going to write to the press (magazine) about how it changed your life. Go ...go on before you change your mind. Big strengthening hug H

Dont worry, I know all about the G.Ps wages etc. Actually I am putting a complaint together about my G.P surgery as it was down to their incompetance that I was so ill in the first place. They should have been monitioring a drug they put me on, they didnt!!! a lost job, lost uni place later, here I am. As yes H, I`ll stick it to the man and see where it gets me. Thanks muchly for the reply Tracey x
