My gastric band
hi i went to belgium to get my banding done in march 2005 it was very painful at first and very hard to get use to having a strange thing that i could feel inside my own body . it was great i started to loose weight slowley but surely but i felt that the doctors here just wanted as much money as they could of me i would only be in the room 2 mins and it would cost me 150 pounds and they would only put a tiny bit in . it was also hard for my doctor to find my boxs he said that in belgium they put it to deep in . i had lost about just over 2 stone by december 2006 then i started to notice i could eat again so called my doctor to get it filled again .when i went to get it filled the doctor noticed that there was nothing in my band so i said maybe it was leecking and he said i dont think so . he filled my band and the next day i could eat again so i went back he tryed again next day the same thing so he said u need a xray so i did they put the blue dye in my band and they still could not find a leeck . the next day i could eat so i called the doctor he told me to come again he tryed again and then said it must be leecking so with in 5 weecks i gave about 900 ponds . i then fell pregnant i had my baby boy tony on 7th of may 2008 so on jan 2009 i felt it was time to get it fixed so i called belguim to see if they would do this for me . it took me 5 month a longe time to

Gastric banding
I have made enquires with several clinics about having a gastric band fitted. I am 36yrs old and feel that life is passing me by. I am a single parent and currently working 7days a week and undertaking two college courses that wil be completed by June 09. I do need to start thinking more about myself and the future. I feel that in this day and age, WEIGHT is a major issue which is currently making my unhappy, depressed and i feeling lonley. I have several times lost weight 3, 4 and even 5 stone but never able to keep it off. I have always struggled with my weight and I realise that this procedure is no quick fix. The problem I have that I want this procedure to work more than anything but have been informed that after paying £7000 ( I am that despondent with my weight issue, that I am taking out a loan for this procedure) and theres only a 80% success rate. Will I by the one in the 20%, not a postive attitude but when it comes to weight issues and see other people eating and drinking anything and having fab figures, what is there to be postive about or is this whats meant to be for me. I just want to go shopping and go into any clothes shop and feel normal and able to buy what I like, not be limited to one or two shops.
I want to talk to people who have had the procedure and ask for recommendations of clinics and treatments received. I have made an appointment for a consultation in June.
Thanks
Jo

Gastic sleeve
Hi Jo,
I have had a gastric sleeve done in the Czech Republic via CosmeticBliss 6 weeks ago and I am losing steadily with no hunger. I can really recommend it. Its a superior option to the band IMHO. The cost currently is around £5,500 all in. Do some research on the forums on the wider inertnet. Its not a common operation in the UK yet, we tend to lag behind Cheers, Jane

Gastric band abroad
Hi Jo, its sad to hear how your feeling i too have spent time as a single parent and struggling with weight. i'm no longer single but i do have weight problems, but i'm feeling al ot more positive about it now as last september my uncle had the gastric sleeve procedure with a company called cosmetic bliss, they are a uk company but the surgery is done in brno in the czech republic. i know that sounds a bit scary ( thats what i used to think about abroad surgery). i went along with him for support and to see for my self what it was like. they were fantastic, you get great care, Deb and Michael who own the company are actualy out there with you and Dr. Cierny and his team that do the op are really great, the clinic is abit dated looking from the outside but in side it is so lovely and clean the care you recieve is brilliant.Going with my uncle really gave me a boost and i'm now saving like made to get the band fitted and hope to have it done before the end of the year. I have done lots of research into this to try and get as much knowledge as i can and i have spent a lot of time talking to Michael at cosmetic bliss, he is so friendly and full of helpful advise and the really nice thing is they dont try and push a sell on you they are just happy to help as they both have had weight loss surgery so they really do understand. try giving them a call it might just help you feel better. i hope this has helped take care x.
thanks Anne

Eve
i had gastric band fitted in ... birmingham on 24.1.09 paid 9000 euros which included 6 mnths aftercare package insurane plus 12 dietician visits-i live in ireland and they came to dublin i was told that for convenience some people chose to have phone calls from dietician in fact that all that is available as she is in england-not what i paid for. Secondly promised aftercare which i paid 2500 for was supposed to be brilliant-i have gone for barium swallow after 3 wks and my band is not due to be filled until 10 wks after op although they say 6 wks in handbook-wondering where aftercare is-plus when i spoke to dietician after 3 wks at my expence and request she said i was not eating enough as i had stopped losing weight since 2 wks after op i have now put on 6-8 lbs cas band has not been filled i am so disallusioned as i am making the effort and i though this constantly thinking and watching food is gone thinking of just having soup until band fill but i know i wont be able to stick to that. Anyone else with this problem-there was 3 of us from ireland on the 24.1.09 which was 27000 euros to ... and they cant send someone over to ireland for a plane cost of 200 at most to fill bands.

Gastric band aftercare
hi Eve
Sorry to hear that the aftercare has been disappointing. Did you have the op through the hosptal group in Bromsgrove? I would be really interested to know as I still have to pay off the full balance. If the aftercare is like you say then i may seriously have to review paying the extra for the aftercare. Please please get back in touch. Would appreciated it

Gastric bypass
Hi, I went into hospital on 4th Jan 09 to have the Gastric Bypass surgery, unfortunately they found a polyp while performing a laparoscopy (which i am told should always be done before any form of stomach surgery) and therefore had to cancel my op and deal with the polyp first. Luckily the polyp was benign and i am now back on the top of the waiting list and was told i should have my bypass within 4 weeks, 1 week ago.
I was sad to see that Anne Diamond felt it necessary to go to another country to have any form of weight loss procedures. I truly believe the stigma of being "fat" and having to have surgery to "correct" the problem is one the English still has issues dealing with. Unfortunately this along with the financial pressures of surgery pushes people abroad to have weight loss procedures which are not regulated properly or offer the patient the appropriate pre and after care required. It has taken me 2 years of attending appointments to determine whether i am physically and mentally able to make a informed decision to go ahead with any weight loss procedure. I can't wait for my bypass, I tell everyone i am due to have the surgery and am not ashamed i have to go down this route, i feel positive that i will at least now have a future and not die of conditions associated with obesity. The only thing i am worried about after losing weight is having to go thought excess skin removal, i just hope i get enough energy back after losing weight to go to the gym at last!!

Gastrict band surgery coming up
I am due to have gastrict banding , i am paying for the procedure myself. I chose to have the surgery for health reasons as i am disabled following a spinal injury and have gained weight following reduced mobility. I am advised by my medical practitioners that loosing weight has a very good chance of reducing my acute back pain for which i take daily morphine.

I'm considering having a gastric band fitted. I have been contacting companies who promote and provide the service but I am not feeling confident in what i'm hearing. I like Anne have has weight issue for most of my life and tried every diet available all with great success but only for the weight to return. I am looking for some positive comments from other people who have had gastric banding. I am in the postion to have surgery done soon

Gastric banding
Hi, I had one done in Oct 08'. Initially lost 2 stone and I have terrible pain when I eat. I have had my band opened twice and last weds had it closed as I put on half a stone! Thsi is really getting me down. Everytime I eat, I can feel every morsel going down. I also feel as thoiugh I have something stuck in my throat. I really do not know what to do. I am on milk shake..so not very nuticious. The hospital whwre I had it done just says that it has not slipped as I would be vomiting. I paid £250 today to go and have an exrey tomorrow to see what the problem is! I have made many mistakes in my life but having a band seems to be the biggest. I feel I could put a carving knife to my chest to remove it!! How are you getting on? Sarah Seal

Gastric band
Hi its Eve just read ur msg i just wondered how u got on at ur Xray-its awful isint when the pain gets so bad & u have ur head down the toilet bowl for 3 hours-my problem is i find it really to vomit so i have to suffer the pain or eventually as i said after 2-3 hrs i will vomit. I love the way people who dont know think wev taken the easy option-theres nothing easy about it-when u say the band opened twice & u had it closed do u mean u had a fill or did u actually have to have a doctor close the band-i worry when the pain comes that it has slipped or moved too in fact i had a barium swallow twice to check. Best of luck its hard but hopefully we will lose some more weight in the not too distant future. Keep in touch i know how u feel.

gastric banding op approaching
Hello
I am due to have a gastric band fitted at Easter. I have decided not to tell any of my friends but the closer the date nears I miss having the opportunity to talk about the operation.
I notice that you had the operation back on the 4th November - was wondering how your getting on now 4 months later. Would love to hear from you?
