"Hi barb" Posted by pauline1961 14 January at 23:48
Hello Barb. My name is Pauline and I would love to be your diet buddy on the Neris and India diet. I have the book on order and it should arrive in a couple of days. I should like to start as soon as possible.
A bit more information: I shall be 47 in Febuary, am 5'4'' tall and weigh 11 stone 12 lbs, a size 14-16. I would like to lose 3 stones and get back the lovely figure I had on my wedding day, a comfortably 12.
I have dieted on and off since the age of 20,my top weight ever being 13 stones and a size 18. I have tried calorie-controlled diets, Atkins, cabbage soup, Slimming World (which works really well and you are never hungry, but it gives me excruciating wind! Every time I drop a diet I put back on all the weight, then some!
I am happily married and have no children - but I do love dogs (ones that eat loads).
Can I be your diet buddy please (when my book arrives) ?
Pauline

"Don't give up - it does work" Posted by wooze1 24 February at 11:30
Hi to Barb and all you other girls doing this diet, I'm Suzanne and I'm now 9 weeks into the diet and have lost 16lb and 15 inches from all over. I did a very similar diet a year ago and managed to lose 2 stone before going away on holiday and then falling off the wagon. My lovely husband decided to support me this time and he loves it - all that steak and cream and butter - well who wouldn't - he's lost over a stone in 5 weeks.
The diet honestly does work if you stick to stage one rigidly for at least a month - more if you've got more than three stone to lose. I have real problems with sugar cravings, to the point that I cannot stop eating once I start, it makes me moody and out of control with my eating and my PMS is a nightmare. At my heaviest I weighed 18 stone and I'm 5ft 10. Over the past few years by doing ths low carb kind of dieting the lowest I have got down to is 14 stone 8lbs. I need to be 12 stone 7lbs for health and at the age of 44 I just want to do it and get it over with. After 9 weeks on this diet, my skin is softer, my moods are dramatically improved, I'm not bloated and people have started to notice that I've lost a bit. It's true about the constipation - I didn't find the Physillum husks worked very well but may be I needed to take more, anyhow I'm ok now and regular as clockwork. After the first month I had porridge with blueberries and seeds for breakfast every other day and also strawbs and the occassional apple plus loads of green veg - it all helps. The other problem may be bad breath - be prepared with mouthwash and sugar free gum - it happens due to Ketones - I can explain if you are interested.
I have read loads of books on low carbing and feel I have a good understanding of why this works and what foods are ok or not ok to eat. Please feel free to pick my brains if it helps. The biggest hurdle is to decide you are going to do it and that you are going to do it properly - there is absolutley no point in cheating - we've all been there before and we know it never works.
I wish you all the best - I've never written to a chat room before but I feel so passionatley about what sugar does to the chemical make up of of our brains - making us eat uncontrolably etc that I felt I had to be in contact. Please excuse the speling mistakes.

"Information" Posted by linc14 28 February at 19:10
Hi Suzanne
I just wanted to ask a few questions about the diet if it's OK with you. My name is Louise, I'm on Day 3 and really enjoying it so far, I haven't finished the book. I seletced to go with this diet after reading a book called 'The Hunger years' confessions of a food addict(it's really about the Atkins plan), I would really recommend it. I have dieted for the last 10 years and I lost 4 stone about 5 years ago. Last year I gave up smoking and gained about ten pounds, I struggled and never managed to lose it permanently. I am like a saint Monday to Friday (afternoon) never tempted to fall off the waggon and then as soon as the weekend starts, I go off on a mad eating mission (You'd think I was never going to see food again.) Anyway following a three week holiday in NZ at Christmas I have gained another stone (in just three weeks.)
I've been reading a lot of books relating to food addiction and emotional eating because I figured if I could give up smoking then surely I could give up binge eating. There is a common factor in a lot of the books I have read: Carbs and Sugar are addictive. So the key is to get rid of food cravings by cutting out carbs. I attempted Atkins for 2 days and had such a bad headache I gave up.
After reading Neris and India's book I now understand the headaches will pass, I'm really positive and determined to succeed this time. This diet seems to be much more flexible than the Atkins plan. Other than my two day attempt at Atkins I've never done the low/no carb approach so I feel really anxious about eating all these nice things I've been avoiding for years (especially cheese). I think the Atkins plan has thrown me as you have to weigh and measure you're vegetables. Can we just eat them freely on the Idiot Proof Plan? Do you know if I can eat peppers as part of a salad or in recipe's (as in capsicums as these are technically a fruit?) Also - what about beansprouts?
Also - out of all the things I will really miss fruit, after induction I'm allowed berries - can these be eaten freely or are they measured?
Sugar free jelly - this is allowed after the first week. Am I allowed the individual pots of sugar free jelly that come in their own containers (I'm on the road a lot with my job - so these are really handy!)
Is sugar free gum allowed? I'm paranoid about my breath.
Sorry to bombard you with all the questions...
Hope you can help
Lou xx

"I'll be starting it soon - buddies would be good" Posted by vikkist101 22 February at 15:45
Hi all
My name's Vikki and I'm planning to start the diet soon, I've been intending to lose weight for years by eating healthily and exercising more but somehow it never happens so I've decided to try something more drastic. I have just got engaged, so I now have a real motivation and 1-2 years in which to lose the weight. I am 5'4 and at last weighing a month or so ago was just over 14 stone.
Plus, I've just got back from a beach holiday and the photos are horremdous, I'm a blob!
I am just trying to figure out whether to start it and most likely fail a bit a few times at weekends over the next month or so as people are coming to see us to celebrate the engagement and I just won't be able to resist the champagne, or whether I should wait and then start properly. It must be better to start and just accept it might be slower to start with? Any advice?
Would love to know how you're all getting on and and tips you can give me. Please let's be buddies!
Thanks, Vikki

"Need a buddy big time!" Posted by debbie481 19 February at 09:55
Hi Barb
I am starting the diet today and am hoping you are as well so that we can be diet buddies!
We sound very similar - some height, about the same weight, two kids both grown up but one still at home most of the time. Am 43 and still married after 24 years - definitely get on better when no interference from the kids!
I too want to do finally lose this weight and start really enjoying life again. Have never tried high protein, low carb although I have done just about everything else. Booze will be my hardest challenge I know as I do enjoy my wine every night. have ordered the chromium, husks and co-enzyme so really hoping they will arrive today.
Do hope that you are starting today as well and we can keep in touch and motivate each other...........and cry to each other!
Do get in touch..........please! Debbie

"Need a buddy too - and some motivation!" Posted by lisac6 12 February at 13:14
Hi
I started the Neris and India diet last week - I'm on day 10 today. I was slightly disappointed when I got weighed (on day 8, not day 7 as they advise) to find I had only lost 3 pounds. I have around 7 stones to lose so I thought I would have lost more. However, I got measured and was delighted to find that I had lost nearly 9 inches from around my body, including 3 inches from my waist.
Must admit, I had a drink to celebrate. I did stick to dry white wine which is allowed after week 2, however I was horrified to find that I gained 2 of the 3 pounds I had lost by doing this! I'm really feeling like giving this up - I've spent a fortune on organic foods and supplements - and for my loss to go back down to 1 pound is awful. Can anyone shed any light on this? I know I shouldn't have jumped back on the scales but now I know that number it's very hard to continue.
Please help me - it would be great to hear from other people who have encountered this, or any tips from those who the diet is working for.
Lisa

"Still need a buddy?" Posted by griffinscat 10 February at 20:31
Hi Barb My name is Sarah, and I've just started Neris and India's diet. I also would like to have a buddy for the diet. I'm 31, married with a two year old son. I am 13 stone 2lb and would ideally like to be 10 stone 7lb, and I'm 5'5 tall. I'm fed up with trying so hard to lose weight and succeeding initially with a lot of hard work, only to put it all back on (and more) the second I take my eye of the ball.
I'd love to be able to wear my size 12 pre-pregnancy dresses again, although I can't really blame the pregnancy for being overweight any more as it was nearly 3 years ago! I put 5 stones on in six months while pregnant - quite a feat! I have lost three stones of that but still feels there's a long way to go.
What do you think of the book so far?
Good luck and best wishes Sarah

"Happy to chat & support" Posted by mumzie 1 February at 19:53
Can't say I'm in need of a diet now, but I really admire people like you who want to do this. After I had my kid (16 years ago) I got v big & found I had a carb addiction. Much better now (I did the zone - still do if I slip from the path a bit) but it was v tough to shift the blubber....I am now 5'5 (well I always was) and about 9 stone..my main fat producer is alsohol, and so far this year i have kicked the evening wine ...in the week. I am 44 and have been with him indoors for 20years ..If he behaves himself I might let him stay to 31 years!).I tok my sister asie adn told her it was time for her to fly the nest..Mum & Dad couldn't bear to do it..they were all v miserable...she flew a bit wobbly for a while , but they were so grateful in the end.
Anyway good luck and please keep posting so we can support you. Hug H

"This diet is fab!!" Posted by milliemum 9 February at 16:19
I started this diet 12 days ago and it is absolutely fantastic!!! I lost 8lb last week, no idea what this weeks loss will be as I have resisted the temptation to get on the scales. I lost 10cm off my stomach as well which was fantastic, and 6cm off my hips.
But I must warn you of two things - you really really must take the psyllium husk capsules (believe me, you will regret it if you don't!!) and the feeling awful on day 5 is horrendous but it really does pass.
I can't believe that you can eat so much lovely food and lose weight, but it really does work.
Good luck with it!

"How did you do?" Posted by fatbottomedgirls 27 February at 12:57
We are two work colleagues who are into the 4th week of the diet. We too lost 8lbs in week one, but now the loss has slowed to 1-2lbs a week. We are still on Phase 1 and starting to get disillusioned and we have not cheated once! we find the not cheating quite remarkable - we've never managed to stick to a diet this well before. But is it really worth it for just a lb a week? Would love to know how you've got on since 9th Feb.
We think we now understand why Neris and India never revealed their weight loss on a regular basis and why they stayed on Phase 1 for 6 months!!
How have you found it?
S and Vxx

"Week 6 - still going strong!" Posted by jinty2cats 27 February at 14:03
Again, I'm not one of those people who usually do this but I felt compelled to respond to fatbottomedgirls plea!
I've been on the diet for 5 weeks now and moving into week 6 and total loss is just over a stone but I'm pretty happy with that as the quicker you lose weight the saggier the skin is (sorry to be blunt but it's true). I've got 6 - yes count them, 6! - stone to lose and I've set myself two targets. Three stone by end of May (going on hols) and the remaining three by Xmas. That works out at around 2 pounds per week (or if you want it to sound better - over half a stone a month). But remember, it's FAT, not muscle you're losing, so if you don't lose weight on the scales, measure yourself, you will see it there. Remember how long it took you to put the weight on - it's going to be the same to take it off! But don't give up you've lost a stone already and that's HUGE!!
Exercise is the key if you really want to burn more - walk fast for half an hour each day - then get on the scales and marvel! Remember, however, your body is sneaky - it will expect this and more before it relinquishes any more fat.
Hope this helps and a huge pat on the back for everyone for doing so well - look forward not back!
Jinty
