Lighter life help needed for my wife

She has been on the diet for nearly two weeks now, first week was OK, she lost 6lb, but this week she has only lost 1/2 lb and is feeling rather down.

She is not a big water drinker, and has struggled to drink 4 litres per day, but always managed it, as she wants to lose the weight.

She has PCOS (poly cystic ovary syndrome) and wonders if this could have an effect on the plan working?

Our local doctor has been a waste of time, and the local Lighter Life rep didn't get back to her with meeting details etc.

Any help or assistance gratefully received.

Cheers

Stuck too!!!

I started lighter life 4 weeks ago, all went well weeks 1 (-5 lbs) & 2 (-6 1/2 lbs), weeks 3 & 4 however I did not lose. I am beside myself as I have been really enjoying it & have not found it difficult at all, not a morsel of real food has gone over my mouth apart from the 4 food packs a day, drunk the water etc. Anyone else had a similar problem? I will give it 1 more week. Would appreciate any help please.

Lighterlife pros and cons

Hello, tell your wife i understand only to well what she is going through. I followed the plan in 2006 and did find it extremly hard, i did it for the reasons of wanting to start a family as we had had problems conceiving and i did loose weight and fall pregnant. It took me nearly a year and a hell of a lot of heartache and money to loose 4 stones and my husband will tell you i was awful to live with whilst on the plan. Mood swings fed up depressed and unfortunately didn't have a very good group at the time and my class leader was not easy to talk to. I wish your wife the very best of luck and tell her if she persists the weight will come off but it takes a very strong person to carr on, i don't mind admitting that looking back it was bloody hard. I think if i had the money now i would probably give it a go but cannot afford it now we have a baby.

Take care and best wishes to your wife. x

Golower - the diet with real food!!

Hi,

I just wanted to tell you about a diet I am doing called golower, I have been following it for a month and lost a stone. This is a diet where you eat real food, nut bars, soups and dinners such as chicken curry, beef and onion meatballs, chilli beef!!!

Have a look on their website www.golower.co.uk - this may suit your wife better. There are no weekly weighins or counselling and they have a fantastic support helpline that you can ring. Also this diet has been designed to change your taste so you dont crave sweet things, the food gets delivered to you and all you do is heat it up and add veg.

Good luck, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Well done!

Your wife should be very proud of the fact that she has lost half a stone in only 2 weeks!
That is a lot of weight to have lost already, stick to the diet even if you lose 1 pound a week ,it is coming off and not going on.
Keep encouraging her!
buy her little presents every time she loses a pound!

Flavour the water- lovely drink

I have been on the diet for 5 weeks and lost nearly 2 stone,i bought the lighter life water flavours, 9 pounds a pot, add a small spoonfull to a glass of water and it taste lovely, especially with sparkling water.
Your wife will have no problem with drinking water,if she buys these.

Lighter life to the rescue

Tell your wife not to worry my weight loss on lighter life was not so spectacular it was barely the stone a month and I had done better previously on slimming world BUT its not just the weight loss is it its dealing with the issues that led her to being overweight. My poor lighter life counsellor took a lot of flack from me as each week I was actually one of the only one in the group actually religiously following the programme. Then I found the water a nightmare but persevered. Then I couldn't have the bars as they stopped my weight loss completely!! I was bloomin furious and developed tourettes for a while - every other word was a swear word!!! Anyway, the upshot is over a month yes there were some weeks when I lost half a pound and others when I lost four pounds. I stuck with it. I then mithered the poor leader with my worry about going back to food, but its all good. I decided to stop abstinence at thirteen stones (going from twenty one stones) as I carry quite a bit of weight in extra skin. During route to maintenance I have actually lost a further stone and a half and am enjoying food for once in my life, although I do worry from time to time that I will put the weight on, but each week I am reassured at the scales I have not. Tell your wife to stick with it. I started the diet at the end of January this year and am now a size twelve and look really good in clothes, naked is another story but am looking at plastic surgery as although I have been attending a gym for six months my body is as toned as its going to be. I am having my arms lifted next month and then I shall work on the rest. Some of us don't get on so much with very low calorie diets, however, as I have said before Lighter Life is excellent for the reasons we eat. Time will pass and she will be lovely and slim, she won't regain the weight either if she sticks to the whole programme including the route to management. She can always chat to me.

Regards

How is your wife getting on?

I am in my 3rd week of Lighterlife has your wife got any better with it?

She has only lost a 1lb this week.

She want to lose about 4 stone so it is not going too well for her and I can see her giving up unless weight starts coming off a bit quicker.

How well are you doing on the diet?

Pcos

I also have PCOS and have found weight loss very difficult. I'm doing Cambridge diet which is similar except you don't get the counselling sessions. The water drinking does help and will get easier, avoid adding the powder mixes as these contain extra carbs and can slow weight loss down.
Apparently pcos cause you to be insulin resistant so she should ask her doctor to prescribe her metformin tablets to help. This in itself should balance her insulin and therefore blood sugar levels, help with any PCOS symptoms and help her lose weight.
Check out http://pcos.insulitelabs.com/Metformin-and-PCOS.ph-p

The other thing she can do to balance any carbs in the lighterlife mix is to have little and often during the day so her blood sugar level is staying roughly in the same range rather than peaking and troughing. She can do tis by halfing each pack and having them every few hours.

Another diet, if she's thinking of coming off lighterlife, for PCOS is called vitaline (www.pcos-vitaline.com)its cheaper to join and you basically eat normal healthy meals but have little cubes of chicken or certain veg every few minutes and these basically keep your metabolism as high as possible. Its specifically designed with PCOS in mind.
Tell her good luck and if she carries on with LL she might lose a massive weight next week. I really hope she perseveres!
