Relaxation tips at night

Has anyone got any tips on how to relax at night? I find that I always have a million things running through my mind and I can't "empty" my head. I've tried taking baths in the evening or writing lists of things that are on my mind but I still seem to spend ages getting off to sleep.

Sleep on your stomach and bend your knee (left or right) and face on the direction where your knee is bent for about 5 mins. If you still cannot sleep, do it on the other side. It's one of the relaxation techniques I learned from yoga. It works for me

Interesting.

I think I do this naturally and it's probably the way I get to sleep each night. I very rarely sleep in any other position. My preferred side is my left one.

I know sleeping on your left side helps if you suffer with indigestion.

Visualisation

If you use visualisation at night when you can 't sleep, at least you are not lying there tossing and turning. I often find a good session of visualisation helps me drop off.
How to do it?
Imagine a beautiful place. Woodland and Seaside are two of the most popular. In your mind, walk through this place, feeling the sun on your face or the wind in your hair. Listen to the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore, or the rustling of leaves. While you do this you should aim to breathe as slowly and deeply as possible.

Cant sleep at night

hi kelly
try this exercise,

lay flat in bed and amagine you are on a magic carpet, start with your feet, imagine they are being lifted, feel them getting lighter, now carry on up your body, next your legs and so on till you have come to your head, now try to imagine a small dark dot, watch it as it grows bigger and your mind is in compleat darkness, pratcise this every night and soon it will become very easy, this exersice should relax you and help you fall off to sleep, i hope it works for you, it did for me, let me know, regards emily.

Have a relaxing bedtime ritual:-
A warm bath, reading, or another relaxing routine can make it easier to fall sleep. You can train yourself to associate certain restful activities with sleep and make them part of your bedtime ritual.

Sleep until sunlight:-
If possible, wake up with the sun, or use very bright lights in the morning. Sunlight helps the body's internal biological clock reset itself each day. Sleep experts recommend exposure to an hour of morning sunlight for people having problems falling asleep.

Don't lie in bed awake:-
If you can't get to sleep, don't just lie in bed. Do something else, like reading, watching television, or listening to music, until you feel tired. The anxiety of being unable to fall asleep can actually contribute to insomnia. Return to bed when you begin feeling sleepy, and try to avoid sleeping in locations other than your bed.

Avoid caffeine

Are you making sure that you're not drinking too much coffee or drinks with caffeine? Ideally, you shouldn't drink them after 6pm.
