Taking the copper coil out

Hi everyone,

I am contemplating on having the copper coil fitted, but wondered if there is a certain amount of time that you need to leave it fitted before having it taken out if you are not getting on with it?

I am currently taking Cerazette, which I have only been taking for 4 months and it is making me gain weight rapidly due to the progesterone, so my doctor has suggested the copper coil. I have read that it makes your periods last longer, makes them heavier and also makes them extremely painful, so I am dubious about using it. I am not able to take the combined pill as I have a blood clotting disorder.

Hope someone is able to help me as I am having a tough time deciding what I am going to do.

Many thanks!

Coil

Hi there, as far as I know you can have it taken out any time you like. Even if you don't get on with it at first, you might want to give it a few months though to see if it settles down. Kat x
