Don't do it!!
Hi there -
Seriously do not try the implant. The insertion is fine, practically pain-free the rest that follows isn't as easy going. I've been on it for five years so I know what I'm talking about. My period is irregular - sometimes lasts 2 months without a break, I suffer from bad skin because of it, which I can cover up with foundation and concealer. Before I went on it I was a size 10 - I ballooned up to a size 22, I've worked most of it off but am stuck at a size 14, despite dieting and exercising like a maniac. I am having mine removed in two weeks time and I cannot wait to break away from it all! A friend of mine had the same problem on the same contraceptive and after she had it removed she returned to a size 8-10 with in a matter of months! It is really as bad as the "jag" to be honest, you just can't get the weight off, regardless of how hard you try. I'd recommend being very safe when using condoms - I am personally sick of having hormones flying around my body that aren't naturally supposed to be there. Also, I read an article in a magazine about a woman who had it for two years and it works by thinning your cervix so an egg can't attach, thus no pregnancy, however, it thinned hers too much so now she'll have to have an operation to correct it and the chances of her getting pregnant naturally again are very slim. You can imagine my panic, I'm only 22 and I've been on it for FIVE years! After reading that I immediately booked the appointment to have it removed. Don't do it, research something else if you don't want to use just condoms. x
