Alcoholic partner

Can someone please just talk to me and maybe help?
I have been with my partner for over 7 years and yes in the beginning i drank too much too. I slowed down as I didnt drink excessively previous to us getting together. We split up for a few months last year, partly due to this problem.
My partner has a very stressful job and often takes work home with him. He has tried to stop and a few years ago did so for 10 wonderful months, but we had a all inclusive holiday so he wanted to take advantage of that, of course we ended up arguing in holiday. He will stop for maybe a week or two - the first few days he cant sleep and gets the shakes. Then finds an excuse to get a drink again. We are due to go on holiday in a few months and I'm now scared it'll turn into rows again. through drink. I dont have a problem with him having a drink, I wish he could just have 2 or 3, its the amount 12-15 pints an evening and that he does not make it up to bed, falls asleep on the couch, which i really dont like.
I love my partner deeply and know that deep down he loves me, it just seems he loves beer more!
Can anyone help me? or give me some advice/suggestions!

I'm sorry you are going through this.My girlfriend is also an alcoholic. He sounds like my partner(sex reversed ).What you have got to realise is that it is a mental illness, and unlesss they want to stop, they will lie until the cows come home that they have.I realise this will probably not help you,but my thoughts are with you. You're not alone, all the best Kev

Thanks Kev
I have this in 'Relationships' too as I thought at first that is what it effects the most.
I know its an illness and my partner does at times realise what he is doing, promises to change etc. I feel Im just looking for someone to talk too also as this is so soul distroying (well feels that way to me).
Tanks again
Gayle
