My tips for getting and staying slim
There seems to be a lot of confused girlies on here all looking for the 'magic' diet that will work
I am no expert, but I feel I know enough so if you are still interested here are my tips. Here goes...
Diets which leave you hungry and craving can help you lose weight short-term, but it is not sustainable over the long term and you will generally put the weight back on plus more, making the problem worse.
To lose weight and keep it off for good, think long term. Healthy eating must be a lifestyle choice, as opposed to 'a diet' which is not. It is your choice...
Drink more water. Think youre drinking enough? I bet youre not. And no, 15 cups of tea a day does not count. Less tea, more water. Im not saying you cant have a cuppa or two, but get a grip. Water is our planets most natural, life-giving resource. Us humans can only survive for 3 days without it before we wither and die. So drink lots of it. Give your body what it needs.
Try to consume the majority of your carbohydrates for breakfast or certainly well before lunch. Carohydrates are pure fuel for your body. By consuming the majority of them very early on in the day while you are active, your body will burn them up, giving you the energy you need, whereas eating carbohydrates late in the evening, when you are generally inactive means your body is loaded with fuel food which it simply does not need. So it is stored as fat for when your body needs it, basically you get fat while you sleep. Not good.
Mid morning, you can have that low fat choccy biscuit, but wash it down with mineral water. Despite what you may think, it will not make you fat! Have some fruit with it too, to help keep the hunger at bay.
Remember... HUNGER IS YOUR ENEMY! Keep yourself topped up. Do not allow yourself to get hungry! Peckish is fine, hungry is not.
You must eat small amounts of healthy food often, think of it as keeping yourself topped-up all day. If you go too long between eating and wait until you are ravishing before you finally eat, you will want to fill your stomach in order to feel full and contented. This puts an enormous strain on your stomach and over time increases the size of your stomach and your appetite, meaning you are able to eat biger and bigger meals in one sitting. Not good for getting or keeping slim is it?
Ever look at small children and marvel at their energy levels? They run around...then they eat a small amount of food...and then theyre off again. Eat like a child. Little and often.
For lunch a healthy sandwich is a good choice, chicken or ham or somethting like that, with lots of leafy greens and salad thrown in. Spinach is a Superfood with lots of iron. I always thought spinach would taste horrible but I love it, its just like lettuce so get some of that in there too. Follow that with some fruit, but nothing else with carbohydrates! Youll get your energy from the bread in the sandwich. Brown granary bread is best. The meat in the sandwich will help with any muscle repair/maintenance your body needs to carry out, and the salad stuff in it will give you the minerals and antioxidants you need. Wash it down with some mineral water. Job done. Easy peasy.
Mid afternoon (very important) you must eat something between lunch and dinner when you get home. As i mentioned earlier if you wait till you get home you may feel too hungry and eat more than your body actually needs. Therefore say around 3pm or so, eat something else, some more fruit is good as it will just keep you going till you get home, again just keeping the hunger at bay. Drink some more mineral water.
Dinner What you eat is up to you, but remember, you must only consume a small amount of carbohydrates in your meal. The majority of your day is done. By eating only a very small amount of carbs, you are only taking on enought fuel food to keep you going for the remainder of the evening, and no more than that. A 'small' jacket potato or a 'small' amount of rice is great. Do not supplement your meal with bread. You dont need it. Its just extra carbohydrates that your body does not need. Youre only eating it out of habit. Again chicken/fish/ham is great, eat a good sized portion of it. Think more meat, less carbs. Also throw in some green stuff, leafy is best. Avoid celery...waste of time eating that stuff. Drink some more water, or a cuppa is fine is you really have to have one.
If you have to eat anything before you go to bed, eat only a very small amount, and no carbohydrates! Remember, its just fuel food, worst thing you can eat before bed. Pizza or takeaways late in the evening...bad idea. If you want a takeaway once a week try to eat it early in the evening and good for a brisk walk with your partner afterwards.
Well thats the day over, and hopefully you will feel that this kind of eating habit is sustainable over the long term. You shouldnt have felt hungry at all. Remember healthy eating should be a way of life, not a diet.
A little of what you like... there is nothing wrong with eating a naughty snack sometimes but try to save it for the same day each week, that way you will look forward to it, and by eating healthily all week, youll have earned it, and you can eat it guilt-free. Just dont go nuts, and try to eat it during the daytime, when you are still active. Do not eat your naughty treat in the evening or before bed!
Eat less, move more Try to combine this healty eating with a little excercise, cycling, gym, swimming, walking the dog at a good pace, jogging, anything that raises your heartbeat while youre doing it and gets your arms and legs moving. But choose activities you want to do, otherwise you will just give it up. Like your food, think little and often. A little excercise often, is much more sustainable and beneficial than a 2 hour jaunt once a week.
If you eat healthily you will lose some weight and get slimmer, but if you combine it with regualr excercise, say 2-3 times a week or more, you will see much more benefit and get the shape you want. Simple as that.
Thats it really, hope this helps someone out there... just trying to do my bit to help.
