Lighter life
PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS DIET!
I started the lighter life diet around two years ago and did it for around 8 months. I lost 5 stone and as soon as i came of it i put a lot of the weight back on, this was following the lighter life guidlelines of introducting food in stages.
It made me have a very negative relationship with food as it makes food the enemy and a bad thing. I developed an eating disorder as i had got it ito my head that all food was bad and when i ate anything i became so overcome with guilt that i would make myself sick. I was really ill. The lighter Life counsellor was rubbish and gave me no support and i eventually had to seek medical help and see a psychologist about my eating disorder,
I know its awful being overweight and many people see this as a quick fix but its ruined the last 3 years of my life and i would never never advise anyone to go on this diet - yes you will lose weight quickly but it rarely stays off and it does not do your mental health any good!

Shelflife, I am so sorry that you had that horrible negative experience and hope that you are happier now..
I would suggest that not all Lighter Life counsellors are good one's. Mine was actually not a good one, but I managed to lose 3.5 stone through abstinence in 3 months and then managed to apply my own route to management, keeping it off through exercise and strict diet. For me, I always knew what I needed to do, but my weight got out of control and I didn't ever lose weight fast enough to keep motivated on a diet. The motivation to lose was key for me. I needed to re-educate myself about alcohol and simple carbohydrates and managing food in social situations. Maintaining is not so hard now that I have addressed these issues.
To anyone who is thinking of this programme, it is worth remembering that "normal people" do not always have a healthy relationship with food and even those people we perceive to be thin and in control of their diet, are exactly that "IN CONTROL". There is no such thing as "normal" eating in my book, it's what works for you. If you have a big night out and eat a lot, it's a long run or a hard workout the next day!

Lighter life
hi there , as you have just started don't worry about it, and make sure you dont beat your self about as it can lead you to eat more. remain your self has being in the adult, ego state has i have learn't by breaking the cycle, it is so hard to get back into the land of no food, and i am so desprately wanted it to work for me. it does work as there was a gal in my group that had lost 4 & a half stone, and she really does look amazing .................good luck !!!!

Hello reena!
Hi Reena,
I know how you're feeling - I did LighterLife about a year ago and I remember how hard it was to ignore all of the food around! DOn't worry - so long as you're motivated you'll get there... promise!
I dropped four and a half stone (carried on losing it in management) and have been maintaining my weight for the last year - so not just a quick fix diet!!
I wrote a blog while I was doing the diet - hopefully it'll make you giggle!! Start at the bottom of the page as the more recent posts are random ramblings - LOL!

E-mail me back if you want more motivation!!

Lighterlife!
Hi There
Just started lighterlife myself. Went to the first class on Monday evening and began the programme Tuesday. I need to loose between 7-8 stone to get to my target weight, but already I feel deprived! Not giving up though, I want to look and feel better. You've done really well to loose 4lbs in 2 days, well done. I've been on scales today and noted my weight so will go on again Friday see how I'm doing. Have you seen some of the recipes for the different things to do with the packets of food? Not as exciting as a takeaway but puts a bit of variety in your day.
Let me know how you get on, I could do with a buddy to share this with x

I need help
I started LighterLife last wed. I managed great on thurs, fri & sat, although feeling low, bit depressed and splitting headaches i did it and felt quite proud of myself then woke up on Sun morning and felt awful, really sick and kept wrenching so i could'nt eat anything. I made a little fresh soup to line my stomach as don't like the LL soups very much and the thought of a milkshake was awful. I then never ate much at all and today ended up giving in and having some coffee with milk and pasta meal and now after reading everyone elses feel really gutted i gave up too easily. I can be a bit funny with milk and i'm wondering if this is a hurdle i just can't get over. As its my first week i never got to buy bars and i just feel really p****d off at myself, which is making me feel really low and i keep bursting into tears for no reason. I have 6 st to lose and know with some help i could do it, so if anyone can be bothered to help someone who seems to have no willpower then your comments would be fantastic. I need someone who understands as no-one around me does and you guys sound like your doing well.
Good Luck to all.
Thanks
PS: sorry about the book!!!

Week 1
Well just went to meeting and got weighed. I have a rough few days due to eadting pizza, bread and pasta on Sunday & Monday but on Tuesday decided to give it another go. I was upset and angry with myself but started again and lost 6lb which i am very pleased with, just wish i'd did it properly. The other girls in my group lost between 10-13lb each, i was so jealous but inspired to do it for next week. writing on this helps me as i can get it out which is great, its a sort of diary for me so i may go on but if it helps then who cares!! If your struggling get in touch and i'll try and help you through it. good luck and don't give up it just means you need to start again...what a waste of bloody time!!!

Lighter life good luck !
Hi Faye here a good tip for you if you are going to cheat just to get though the hell of it DONT USE CARBS THEY WILL TAKE YOU OUT OF KEY TONES YOU NEED FISH OR VEG BUT NOT SWEETCORN NEED TO KNOW THE PRINCAPLES OF ACTKINS FAYE

Don't cheat!
I went on Lighterlife a couple of years ago and lost over 7 stones - during the diet I felt fitter and better than I had done in years - unfortunately I have regained most of the weight, but that was due to the fact that a change of job (boosted by my extra confidence from the weight loss) made it difficult for me to continue to attend and follow the programme and I missed out on the management programme. You can lose the weight - but cheating will slow it down and actually stops the process - it's to do with the ketones - if you eat, your body stops producing them and then you don't burn off the fat you want to lose. Plus toast (carbohydrate) is the worst kind of snack because it makes you want to eat more (at least it had that effect on me). Good luck with it!

I just started lighterlife
i found it difficult on day one the meetings are ok im 24 youngest in my group so finding it hard! i hated the bars so decided to stick with soups and shakes. im going to stick it out even tho i miss food wont be forever and will be worth it! i dont feel hungry but the diet kills social life lol

1st few weeks of lighterlife
Hi there, this diet is pretty gruelling in the first few days, but it does get easier. Now i'm five weeks in and 25 pounds lighter i'm feeling fabulous!.I hate the bars too, they're awful. The soups are delicious, all varieties, especially the thai chilli with tobasco sauce,I have it at night time to 'warm' me up.And as for the social life, well, there'll be plenty of time for that in a few months time.I have'nt joined a meeting though,I'm not really into the counselling side of things,I know why i'm over weight!.But what a good diet this is,i've tried nearly every diet going and never succeeded,I'm confident that when I get to what I want to be I will keep the weight off.Stick with it and Good luck.xx

Info
Hi there, can I ask how you are doing lighterlife and not taking the counselling? I thought you had to do both. Does it still cost you £66 per week? I am thinking seriously about it as a kick up the bum to be healthy after I loose...the problem I have is the money!!! Goodness, it's soooo much.

"5 weeks on lighterlife"
Hi there,my name is shelley,I have been on lighterlife for 5 weeks now and I have lost 25 pounds!.In that time I have not eaten anything but the lighterlife food packs. It's not easy, but after a while you get used to it.The thoughts of being slim for xmas is keeping me going, plus it has cost me alot of money!.The first few days are horrendous,(you are likely to suffer migraines and feeling sick),not to mention all of the water you have to drink. But after a few weeks you will start to feel healthy, your skin will glow, and you'll feel more energetic. The only problem I have is how to go about maintenance.I don't attend the meetings,so I am not sure how to carry on once I have completed the Foundation Stage. If anyone can give me any advice it would be greatly appreciated.Regards,Shelley.
