Richmond diet clinic - anyone tried it?

Hi,

Has anyone been to the Richmond Diet Clinic?
http://www.richmonddietclinic.co.uk/
I went for a "consultation" last week and am a little sceptical about the Doctor I spoke to! Has it worked for anyone else?
Cheers

I've been to richmond diet clinic

I attended this clinic last year. I needed/wanted to lose around 2 stone. I initially say a male doctor who was very helpful/friendly. After a few visits he was no longer there. I wasn't given an explanation as to why but the lady doctor I saw was just as good. I tended to have appointments every two weeks (although they are quite flexible with this). I was prescribed phentermine after an initial assesment including BP, weight/height etc.

I joined early last year and by the summer I was happily wearing clothes that had not fitted for such a long time. I even wore skirts for the first time in years.

For me personally loosing weight is so difficult. Even when sticking to 'traditional' diets like WW/SW/RC etc I just end up thinking about food all the time/feeling hungry. The tablets I was prescribed took this problem away. I did not constantly 'think' about food. Don't get me wrong, I didn't starve myself, I just felt satisfied after eating and no longer felt the need to 'overeat'.

I actually wnet for an interview at this place (didn't take it). What was it about the Dr that made you sceptical?
I thought it was surprisingly downbeat & a little run down actually.

Richmond clinic

I went there about 6 months ago, the Doctor could not give me a diet plan to follow, she said just to cut down on what I eat and then she gave me Phentermine ( which I beleive are a controlled substance in the UK)

see quote:

Duromine was removed from UK circulation because it was not deemed a safe treatment.

"The slimming drug Phentermine has been banned in the UK after fears it could cause heart disease.
The drug, marketed as Duromine and Ionamin, has been linked to leakage in the heart valves."

Source: BBC ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/710340.stm )

I took it for a few days and felt too sick to continue.
I never went back and never heard from the clinic, so I guess they are used to patients not returning.

I guess everyone has their own way to lose weight, but I found the so called clinic just after £££

Richmond diet feedback

Hi,
I read your feedback with interest as I am the Practice Manager at Richmond Diet Clinic. We've been around for 19 years and nearly all our patients are recommended to us by their friends or family. We could not have achieved this without helping people achieve real results, which is reinforced by the brilliant testimonials our patients give us when we run a survey each year.

I don't understand why Belinda was not given one of our eating plans, nor why the possible side effects of the medication were not explained.
These normally stop after a few days, and if not the doctor can change you to a different medication. Phentermine is a fully licensed medication that's been used safely for over 50 years.

Some patients ask us NOT to contact them which is why we are cautious about approaching patients that we haven't seen for a while.

If anyone wants to get in touch with me with specific feedback or questions I would be pleased to hear from you.

Richmond diet feedback

Hi

As a registered fully qualified nutritionist, I would advise any potential clients of Richmond Diet Clinic to stay well away from such an establishment. I know from first-hand experience that such a clinic provides advice which is complete and absolute 'quackery'!!

The majority of staff that are based there are not registered nutritionists/dieticians nor qualified nutritionists and are referred to as 'nutritional therapists'which IS NOT A QUALIFIED NUTRITIONIST(RNutr) .A qualified nuttitionist must have completed a degree in the subject for 3 years to qualify as a registered nutritionist, so be beware before you part with your money!!

Prescribing Phentermine should under no circumstances have been advised in such a case!

I would suggest that the client that was prescribed such a drug report this to the British Medical Association. This sort of practice should be taken very seriously.

Regards,

Orla

Response to orla

Hi Orla
I'm afraid your comments show a complete lack of knowledge about our clinics which is potentially misleading to visitors to this forum.

Our diet clinic, which has been established for twenty years is run by GMC registered doctors who follow established guidelines in prescribing legal, licenced medications to our patients.

We were one of the first clinics in the country to achieve registration under th Healthcare Commission's tough National Care Standards. Our nutritional therapists use the latest thinking on glycaemic index in creating the eating plans for the diet clinic.

Our nutrition clinic is run by nutritional therapists registered by the British Association of Nutritional Therapists and are qualified in either BSc (Hons) in Nutritional Therapy or ION Diplomas. Both courses are evidence-based courses and it is absurd to even suggest that any of this could be considered as 'quackery'.

I would be very happy to discuss with you the work that we do as it is helping 1000's of people every year to lose weight and optimise their health.

Regards,
D Rowan
