Confused and on cambridge diet
I really don't get how this diet works..... I am now on my 14th day of my diet, my first week or rather my first 5 days i was good and i stuck to it to the letter, i started on the monday and got weighed on the Friday and lost 4lbs, i was slightly dissappointed but then thought well its only been 4 days so not quite a full week. i was in ketosis from wednesday in week 1, i knew i was as i was shaky, had headaches and quite aggressive and..... my goodness the constipaption...... this did not help as i started on CD when it was the time of the month also. As my counsellor was going on holiday that weekend i decided to weigh myself on monday, oh i forgot to mention it was may bank holiday weekend, i had to go underground and not socialise with my friends for fear of temptation, however i have to say that by the weekend i cheated i had about 3 tablespoons of red wine, 2 cheese and crackers, (i am also doing sole source plus btw) and i had to go to my in laws for sunday dinner but kept it very minimal and had 1 baby roast potatoe and half a parsnip with my chicken breast and spinach, i also had a small rum and lemonade. Anyway i weighed myself on the monday and had lost 2lbs (6lbs in total week one). Now last week iwas able to have the CD chocolate cardboard bars - hurrah!! but i am still finding that i am coming home and snacking on a creamcracker or two, now i weighed myself this morning and i have lost another 6lbs????? how can that be, this diet clearly states nothing else should pass your lips, i usually have a snail of metabolism and find it so hard to shift weight but in 2 weeks i have almost lost a stone in weight, i only need to lose two stone on this diet....so can somone explain to me, how can i be losing weight when i have been cheating, i also forgot to say i had 1 scramble egg on toast last night for dinner???? this diet has also given me haemorroids.......am really confused........i have been exercising a little not much, oh yes, i also forgot to mention that in the evening when i do weigh myself again i am always 3lb heavier, so what is the true weight, your morning or evening weight? and i don't think i am in Ketosis anymore, but why am i still losing if i have been doing everything that they say you can't??

Cheating on the cambridge diet
Hi LeaJua,
The cambridge diet works on converting your source of energy from Carbohydrates to stored fat (in your body). Everyone's body is different and the foodpacks on the Cambridge Diet are designed to provide you with the minimum required carbs to get through the day and for the rest of the energy you need, you use your stored fat.
Some people are luckier than others in that they can still stay in Ketosis with an addition of carbs here and there through cheating. It eventually catches up with you. I used to go through a season on my 2nd month on the diet where on the night of my weigh in and the next day, I cheated with Chicken and a salad; crisps etc and the next week I still lost.... but on my 3rd month, my weight did not shift an inch!!!! I also had very slow metabolism. I am now trying to get back to the diet 100% and hope that my ketosis state comes back and it is hard to go without cheating!!!!!! I am hoping not to cheat though.
One more comment - the stuff you are cheating with have very little carb amounts so it is possible that you are still in ketosis..... egg is full of protein.... if you cheat with eg white bread, pasta etc, you will see the effects straight away!

"keep at it"
Hi Vicky,
I'm not sure if I'm the right person but I'd thought I'd respond to the your posting. I've just finished the 8th week of my Cambridge Sole Source diet. To date I have lost just over 3 stones, which for me is amazing. I started out at 16 1/2 and now am down to pretty much my target weight. I had terrible headaches at the start which occured due to carborhydrate withdrawal (so i'm told). I was a size 42 waist (mens) and am now down to size 36 which means that most of my clothes don't fit anymore. I have recently gone up to the 1000 calorie step. I try to go to the gym 3 times a week and drink green tea (which I hate) to try and boost my metabolism. I only started the CD to support my girlfriend who has lost 2 stones through the diet. I'm looking forward to eating food again (healthy) and think for me it was more about the change of mindset than losing the weight itself. I hope you stick at it and acheive your goals. Anyway, I'd thought I'd share my story

Day 4, in ketosis since day 2
Hi
I started at 9 st 13 and now weight 9st 8. What I haven't seen yet is a measurement reduction. My hips are still 38inches and waist 31 inches, so hoping to see some physical changes in the next few weeks rather than just the scales and a 'moyen' keto stick result. I guess I have just lost water and glycogen so far with a teeny bit of fat but I will keep at it and hope you do too. Good luck.
xx

"day 4, in ketosis since day 2"
To be honest your not going to see alot of change at such a small weight - VLCD are designed for people who have a high fat percentage - after all this is what your body will munch for energy.
I am on Cambridge Diet and have got to 9.13 also. My weight loss is slowing down.
Have you thought about eating a sensible diet and just exercising?

Ketosis
Hi Susannah
The only way to confirm you are in ketosis is to carry out a ketone test. You can get the strips from your chemist. Have you been drinking any diet drinks or anything with citric acid in? as this can affect ketosis.
Without being too personal, have you been for a poo? I think 3 ltrs is plenty but if you are consitpated I would up it to 3.5 obviously drink this over a 24 hour period (this is important). People usually lose any thing between 3 and 8 pounds in their 1st week so hold out for another day, it just might shift.

Cd
Hi Susannah
Im also in the 6th day of the CD and already lost 12lb. I feel good and have no symptoms of being in ketosis. My counsellor gave me some Ketone test strips and I was in ketosis on my 3rd day and had no symptoms whatsoever. So carry on with your diet and the weight will go down. Good luck.

Don't worry it has to happen
Susannah
Someone has probably told you by now, but everyone's body clock is different so some might go into ketosis in 3 days some might take longer. Also it depends if you had a binge before yoou started as yoour body has to work its way through that store first before it gets to what's already in your body.

Ketosis
Hi, i don,t do the cambridge diet but i do Aitkins which also relies on Ketosis. I buy Ketosis sticks off the internet, where you test your water, they are,nt dear and are the best way however you should,nt get too hung up on them as they do say it can depend on the time of day etc to how strong the reading is. hope this helps.
