Where do i start?

Hi Guys, I'm a 32 year old female who now weights 77 kilos - I'm 5ft 6. I've got asthma and had a pretty long stint of oral steroids and during that time I put on about 9 kilos. I'm no longer on oral steroids but still using inhaled ones.

Despite my best efforts - gym, swimming, horse riding and being conscious of what i eat, cutting alcohol right down, I just seem unable to shift the weight.

I am extremely conscious about it and am very unhappy in my body - getting ready for work everyday is increasingly depressing as i struggle into my clothes that are too tight and it's really getting me down. That makes me depressed and I then find it harder to get to the gym as I'm feeling depressed and don't want to go out. Whilst I can quite enjoy the gym all the time I'm there I'm thinking of how fat i look and everything wobbles when I run.

I recognise that I snack when I'm bored or emotional but even that I try now to eat yoghurt or fruit. I also work quite long hours as a lawyer and so my dining times and habits can be rather haphazard.

I really need to feel like I'm back in control of this one as it's getting me down so much I'm becoming obsessed!

I have been looking on the forum for a suitable diet. I'm wondering if I ought to try the Cambridge diet to give me a kick start, get me into my clothes and feeling like I can do it or whether I ought to try a more conventional Slimming World type diet and I wanted to get your advice.

I see that the Cambridge Diet is quite popular from the other discussion posts but I have to confess I'm sceptical as to whether such great results can really be achieved and whether you just put it all right back on again once you've stopped it.

I would really appreciate your thoughts and advice on how to kick start the next (hopefully thinner) part of my life.

Many thanks in advance, Debs

Cambridge diet

Hiya Debs
I know just how you feel, I am also a snacker. I think i should have been a cow because i can graze all day!!!! But anyway I am on day 4 of cambridge diet it's hard but i cheated today and got on scales and have already lost 8lb. I am managing fine with the water intake because its something to put in my mouth, ha ha.I am hoping too that this will give me a kick stat and break the picking habit that i've had for so long now. Give it a whirl and let me know how you get on.

Don't lose heart

Hi Debs.
I started on sole source on the CD monday teatime. This morning I stood on the scales and I had lost 5lbs. Hopefully this will be the first of many.
Yes the CD does help people shed alot of weight and when following the maintenance they have sustained the weight loss. The only people who put the weight back on are the ones that eat more calories than they burn.
Unfortunately you have to find the diet that is right for you.
Have you checked out the CD website?
You could contact your local CD counselor's and ask for information.

Good luck
