I dont agree
with any of htese fad diests that include shakes
the weight watchers or slimming world diets are the only way to go...
a guy at my local weight watchers has lost 7 an a half stone in 15 months.
its brilliant. at least with weight watchers you can eat what you want, cuttin out junk foods is a good thign to do though, an you lose a good bit in your first week, you'll never keep weigh toff with shakes.. you'll have to take them forever and you rbody cant have just 1000 cals per say ll the time..
weightwatchers is designed to get to you to your target weight sensibly but it works fast, then you stay at that weight eatin the same amount of points am you dont have to worry about shakes or sount calories
its all done for you an will cost alot less than the shakes will!!
try it!
gosd i sound liek i work for them! haha

Hi there
You really ought to be losing at a faster rate - have you had your thyroid checked at the doctor's? That would be a reason for it being so slow. Just a thought. I'm on meds which make it really hard for me to lose, and my doctor yesterday has put me on 1000kcal a day. 1200 wasn't working...Best of luck, Julia.

1000cals???
It sounds like your body has gone into 'starvation mode', it is conserving as much enery as it can because you arnt eating enough and therefore putting a stop to you losing weight, try increasing your intake for a few weeks and see what happens. The NHS recommendation for healthy weight loss for a woman is 1500 calories per day. Aiming to lose weight less drastically will make your weight loss more sustainable as well...
good luck with reaching your target

Scary!
Thanks for the reply - I'm scared I'll put the little weight that I've lost back on if I eat more but I see what you're saying. The good news is that my clothes are fitting better so something must be right!
Thanks again.

Ketosis
Hi- I think your problem is that your not eating enough food to have decent metobolic speed, but your eating too much to be in 'starvation mode' which brings on ketosis. Ketosis is a metobolic state where your body/brain switched to use its stored fats instead of the glucose it gets from food. The liver produces Ketones, which power the body and mind through starvation really. This is a normal state that everybody goes through at some point in every 24hrs- eg. you know when you wake up in the morning and your mouth tastes and smells horrid?? thats because your liver has produces Ketones to get you through the night without the need for food. It made sense to me when i learnt this- why dont we wake up hungry in the morning? If I didnt eat for 8/9hrs in the day i would be in agony with stomach pains. This I think makes you realise the power of Ketones!! This is what happens to you when you do the Cambridge diet, or Lighter Life. You have so few calories that your body goes into Ketosis and you loose approx a stone a month. You dont feel hungry or tired once you have got through the first few days (where your not in Ketosis so you are hungry). Im starting SlimFast this weekend, although I am having 3 shakes a day and nothing else.I cant afford to pay for the Cambridge/Lighter Life programmes at the moment, I did them a few years ago and am confident that I can achieve the same result using a simular milkshake powder that is much cheaper! I spoke to the pharmasist in Boots about the ingredients and my doctor and they both agreed that this would be safe to do for 12 weeks. You basically either need to allow yourself to enter into Ketosis by using some sort of food replacement programme, or you need to eat little and often so that your metabolism speeds up. Hope that all makes sense!!

Thanks Emma for that info. It all makes sense to me now. I have started diet today and am going to use my first Ketone stick Monday. Good luck to you.

How many calories?
Hey thanks for this - makes sense, but my fiance would go mental if he thought I was using some sort of 'fad' diet (ie shakes or whatever) plus, I actually like food so I'd find it rather boring. So, my question is, how few calories such I be eating in order to enter ketosis? And should I be eating more protein, less carbs or doesn ... make any difference? Thanks again, big help.

Missterrigirl hope this helps
Hi I understand your fiances reaction my hubby is the same. Having said that I am on the cambridge diet. I have lost about a stone now and about 12 inches. My hubby thinks its a fad he does not agree with sole sourcing (just having shakes and soups), to overcome this I agreed to eat when we are out so I eat chicken ceasar a lot as its high protein and low carb. You could try cd at a different level e.g 2 shakes and a meal so you have a higher calorie intake, you would still lose weight but slower than ss. If you don't want to use cd then eat high protein and low carb.
Good luck

Rosemary conley diet!!!!!!!!!!!11 is the way forward
Hi just to let you know, i think your not having enough calories per day, you see your body needs so many calories per day just to exist! for women 18-29 11st 1524 cals a day, for women 30-59 thats 1414 cals per day, so if you eat these calories per day and exercise or just doing anything your body has no option but to burn fat to do be able to do those extra things! and if you limit you food to food below 5% fat and have one 100 cal treat out of this 5%rule and a 100 cal alcoholic drink per nite and 200 cal for milk, ( taken from your daily allowance) you shoud loose weight. if you wanted you could do the kick start diet of 1200 kcals but only for 2 weeks ( NO treat or alcohol) but no longer you should loose quite a bit in those 2 wks and then a steady 1-2 pounds per week or more depending on your activity! good luck, have a look at her website x
