Word of warning re ovulation - cambridge diet

Hi guys

I know how hard it is to lose weight, I've been on a 'diet' for most of my adult years (I think my first diet was when I was 15 years old weighing in at a hefty 8st (I know, not fat at all, I was a size 10/12) but guys kept calling me Nellie the Elephant and so it started! I've done all sorts of diets over the years including weird ones like egg and cabbage (!) and they ALL worked if you stick to them but of course you return to 'normal' bad habits and the weight went back on. I think I am officially known as a yo yo dieter!

I got pregnant whilst overweight (about 12stone and only 5ft2in) but suffered with terrible water retention and looked like a whale! So this time last year I started Cambridge (sole source) and lost 2 and a half stone within a short period of time. I wanted to lose weight before we started trying for baby #2 to try to be healthier.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I didn't get pregnant straight away (and I had done so before) and the Dr's realised I had stopped ovulating. They didn't know about Cambridge diet but I knew I had done it and asked the question "can strict dieting affect fertility?" and the answer was yes. This is apparently only if you are doing sole source, its okay if you are having more than 500cals per day. I did start ovulating again as normal but it took about 7 months of non-dieting for this to happen and of course I was so worried about my fertility that I put all of the weight back on!

I don't want to scaremonger as it was a fantastic diet and deffo worked but it did affect my fertility for a while. I am now trying to lose the weight I have put on by doing Weight Watchers (which you can still do even if you are pregnant or breastfeeding) and it is working. Its slower but I am still ovulating!

Good luck to everyone.
Bea

Bit worried now!

hi there!

can you tell me how log you were on sole source for, im doing CD to lose the weight b4 i try for a baby so am concerned that could cause problems.

do you have to be on sole sorce for a long time b4 it causes problems??

Hi bea

I've also been a yo yo dieter most of my life so i totally know where your coming from!

I started the CD on 4th Jan (08) and i am also doing Sole Source. When i read your message last night it actually concerned me, not that i'm trying for another baby but just the pure fact that this diet really changes your body in more ways than one! I had only recently found out about the Ketosis Cold! Did you suffer from this? I did early this week but i've also had flu this week and so now i'm not sure, lol!

Tell me, did your periods stop? If so, how long into the diet? I'm sorry but you made me laugh, lol, when you put you were so worried about your fertility that you put all the weight back on, i'm sorry xx

I to was on WeightWatchers and lost over 2st. I do believe that's one of the best diets out there and i know if i fell of the wagon on this one i would go back to WW!

I'm glad to hear your still Ovulating and i wish you all the best

Cody xx

Wer all different.

Must effect people differently cuz i no afew people who fell pregnant whilst on sole source. Anyway, goodluck & av fun tryin! xx
