Starting out....

Just started dieting again after realising that just watching what I eat isn't gonna do the trick. Started last Sat and have lost a pound already. I know its not much but every little helps. Thing is I've started counting my calories, Good I know but I eat on average 1000 calories a day, some days more some less. I don't eat chocolate or crisps or cheese, so how come I'm over weight???? Is it carbs? If so how do you cut out bread, potatoes, Pasta etc etc, what are they replaced with?

Please help, I got a yr to get down 2 stone as my friend is getting married and I'm maid of honour, I don't want to spoil the photos!

Hi. It must be frustrating eating so little and still being over-weight. I don't understand why you are over-weight if you eat approx 1000 calories daily. I eat the same amount of calories as you and i'm under-weight. I weigh 7 stone 3lb (i'm 5 foot 4)
My natural weight is 8 1/2 stone but i diet to be thin. Like you i don't eat fatty foods like chocolate, cheese n' crisps. I eat bread - never more than one slice a day. I don't eat spuds and pasta coz' i become bloated. I do eat carbs though - beans, rice, weetabix and oats. Maybe you are eating the wrong carbs or maybe the problem is the portion of carbs you're consuming. Ideally i would prefer to skip carbs all together as they make me full n' miserable, but we seem to need them for energy. Hows about you have 3 carb portions a day like me - 1 slice of bread and 1 portion of cereal and 1 portion of beans or brown rice. See how you go. Good luck with losing weight, Keep working at it every day and when/if you struggle pop back here for support - no one deserves to feel like the fat girl spoiling the photographs! x x x

hi, I am fed up with my weight. I am just curious as to what you would eat on any givin day. I am 13stone and would love to get down to 10 stone, I do realise its the amount of cals I am consuming but I just wondered what on earth I eat so much - I would sincerely appreciate it if you could give me an idea as to what you would eat in one day - you say you dont eat chocolate or cheese, do you ever have a treat? do you drink any alcohol.

I'm 5'4" and when I started I weighed 12.2 stone. Over 2 weeks I lost 6lb but have gained 2lb in the last 2 days. Not sure if that's due to the monthly cycle or not!!! However calorie counting seems to be working for me. I write down everything that I put in my mouth from chewing gum to my meals etc. I have learnt a very valuable tip though. Soup!!! Lentil or Vegetable soup has 166Kcals and 126Kcals per tin approx.and it fills you up for a longer period of time. I've been eating a Fitness Bar for Breakfast @ 89Kcals with a cup of tea and no sugar. Lunch is 2 slices of toast Hovis best of both is apporx 83 kcals a slice and a scrapping of butter (low fat obviously) then for my dinner I've been eating soup and either crisp breads or a slice of bread no butter. If I've been hungry still I've eaten apples @ 55 kcals per medium size apple.

Also another brilliant tool I've just bought are some scales from Lloyds Chemist. They weigh the food you enter the code for the food in the booklet provided and press reveal. It then tells you exactly how many calories are in what you've weighed.

I don't drink alcohol. For any treats I've had Weight watchers cakes. But I'm so determind to loose weight that I'm even trying to go without even though it's not easy and Is making me a little un-happy. How old are you? I'm 32 an been struggling for years.

Breakfast - on a good day i'll just eat natual yoghurt and fruit. on a bad day i'll eat a sachet of oats or 2 weetabix with skimmed milk with added yoghurt and fruit.

Lunch - on a good day i'll just eat low fat yoghurt and fruit. on a bad day i'll have a slice of toast, yoghurt and fruit.

Dinner - on a good day i'll eat a tuna steak/or tin of tuna or a piece of chicken with veg/salad. On a bad day i'll eat tuna or chicken with veg/salad with a portion of beans or brown rice.

I drink 6-8 glasses of water. 1 or 2 coffees, 1 or 2 de-caff teas. For the odd treats i have low cal hot choc and jaffa cakes. On saturdays i drink wine.

It's a boring way to live according to my family. I've been eating this way for so long that i don't find it boring. It pleases me to be slim and I don't feel deprived - i enjoy the foods i eat. I do have a couple of pig-out days a month, i'll have a pudding, a bar of choc, a sandwich etc but on the whole i'm kinda strict. I've got to a stage now where i don't crave fatty foods. If i eat a roast spud or a biscuit it makes me feel kinda sick. I don't think my diet is ideal - far from it, i am unhealthy and under-weight. I'm just another silly woman who wants to be thin. I'd rather be a size 6, under-nourished and happy - than be fat and miserable. Sad but unfortunatly thats how i feel.

I wish I had that will power. I do feel that Carbs are my downfall, but i'm unsure what to replace them with???

For drinks Water just doesn't do it for me. I don't know why.. I've cut out all my sugar in tea and coffee now.

I want to be like you. x x
