"Been there, got the tshirt" Posted by bam1090 12 August at 19:52
Hi, it does sound like cystitis and I know it can be an absolute nightmare. I tried cranberry juice but didn't get much of a result. My GP also told me to avoid tea and coffee but I found a cup of tea really settled it down. I used to drink a few glasses of water between about 7.30am and 10am, then have tea about 10.30am. I was nipping to the loo every 10 mins until morning tea break, but come lunch time everything was normal. Also, I know tesco do cystitis relief sachets in 'cranberry' flavour, but to be honest you must be really desperate if you manage to finish the box of 5 sachets... they're quite disgusting really but they do neutralise the burning sensation in the bathroom!

"Go to the doctors" Posted by vicky0383 15 May at 18:50
I had cystitis once and it was absolute agony... I tried self medicating with the sachets you can get over the counter, but unfortunately it didn't work and the infection spread to my kidneys. My doctor told me I should always go to him first for antibiotics as if it spreads it does irreversible damage to your kidneys.

"Cramberry and other home remedies for cystitis" Posted by belem401 11 January at 02:54
Yes, you are correct. Cranberry juice can help you. You only have to drink a cup daily.
However, if you need more home remedies for cystitis, there are other like:
Mix a teaspoon drumstick flowers with half a glass of tender coconut water. Drink it twice a day.
Drink three glasses of coconut water daily.
Mix 15 g of horsetail grass in a cup of boiling water, steep for 1 hour and filter. Drink 1 cup of warm liquid early in the morning.
Mix a teaspoon of lemon juice in a cup of boiling water. Drink 60 ml of this water every two hours from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
Mix 3 teaspoons of nettle leaves or roots in a cup of boiling water for 45 minutes. Filter and drink it daily

"D mannose" Posted by gbjoce 1 October at 12:37
I only recently came across this product but have used it twice and it worked and have not needed to get my usual antibiotics to cure the infection. It is not cheap but better than constantly taking antibiotics. It is easily available on the net. I got mine from supplementsplus.co.uk

i have just recovered from a nasty bout of this..but have ended up with thrush from the antibiotics..cranberry juice is great to stop the bacteria sticking..ive suffered from this for years and eventually tried the herbal stuff because i was constantly on antibiotics..i found uvacin works brillianty and i only needed to take one of the tabs as soon as i felt it coming on..it has bearberry extract in..it really works if you cant face the constant cranberry juice.good luck, hope you feel better soon.

"To bubbles20" Posted by rachp 20 September at 14:37
I have been suffering for bladder infections for the past 2 years or so, doctors have prescribed me anti-biotics every other week trying different types and saying that the one theyve given me will work. however to no avail.
My mum found on the net this product called Waterfall D mannose on the sweetcures of york website, and although slightly costly, this has been the only relief i have had during the past 2 years. It worked a treat, drinking the natural powder with a glass of water as i begin to feel a twinge of pain or any smptoms and repeating this procedure as needed. When i spoke to the people on the phone they said that cranberry juice does not help, previously i had been drinking shed loads of it and now i dont drink it at all and i feel a lot better.. maybe a coincidence.. who knows!
WORKED A TREAT! do try it, even as a last resort, it really has made my life a whole lot more bareable espeically now im off to uni.
Hope this helps

"D-mannose" Posted by smc22 13 February at 19:02
I agree with you D-Mannose is the best treatment for cystitis. In answer to the question above, Cranberry juice is a bit of a catch 22 because while it is very cleansing, it is also very acid-forming and Candida and all other Yeast infections, THRIVE in an acidic environment. That's why it's so important to alkalise your body. But to treat the symptom (cystitis) of that current acidosis, using D-Mannose is very effective.

"Cystitis" Posted by ess10 31 January at 20:24
Hi I suffered from cystitis for years, using cranberry powder did not work. After going to a specialist who decided he was going to put me on more anti-biotics, I decided to look on the net for a natural cure and found D-Mannose. It is 100% natural and it worked for me. I no longer have to take anti-biotics any more and do not suffer the razor like pain I used to get. It is a life saver. Please try it.
The company I buy it from is called"sweet cures" and they are really friendly and will help you with any questions you have. Good Luck!!

"Causes of cystitis" Posted by gina2007 31 December at 01:20
Hi my daughter had problems with cystitis a while ago and hear are a couple of tips what her doctor told her and it worked.
1.Avoid wearing thongs (a bacteria collector)these are the biggest causes of thrush and cystitis.
2.Empty your bladder before you go to bed this is an absolute must for people prone to cystitis. Never hover over the pan sit on it properly because your not emptying your bladder totally, even though you think you are.
Hope this helps!

"Cranberry juice is ok!?!" Posted by rosie1100 9 October at 22:51
Cranberry juice is ok, but i find it dry on the tongue. What i try the moment that cystitis hits is to drink a pint of water as quickly as possible then sip more for twenty minutes, then try to 'Wee Wee'. This usually clears the problem, within one or two go's.

Cranberry juice is really good for cleansing your kidneys anyway, so it's a good one to drink after a night out!
