Some hope
Hi. I don't have fibromyalgia but I am working with a number of people who either have been diganosed or probably would be and I am finding it very interesting - so its good to hear your experiences with it - especially as it does seem to vary from person to person. To give you hope: one woman I have just worked with who had it for years has pretty much come through it. Partly it was diet that made a massive difference (some substances seem to cause a tetanising effect in the muscles as I understand it, creating stiffness and tension), partly it was getting educated about what pain actually is and how with something like fibromyalgia (and the hyper vigilance that comes with chronic fatigue) pain signals - which are really danger signals and can anticipate damage as well as signal damage - can get into an increasing cycle in the nervous system that racks up causing greater pain even though there is no more actual tissue damage (if you are interested i can post you a great link to some very accessible lectures on the net) and finding ways to decrease the cycle again - and, very significantly, learning how to move and do things more easily with less tension through a neuro-muscular re-education system I use called the Feldekrais Method (can post a link if you are interested). She was on big drugs for the fibromyalgia and is now off them and her pain is much more within the 'normal' range. so don't despair or think you have to have it for ever! best of luck Victoria
