Chronic shortage of organ donors

I am 21 years old and have end stage Cystic Fibrosis. Last year I was told that without a life-saving double lung transplant I had approximately 1 year to live.

The chronic shortage of organ donors in the UK means there is a 50% chance I will never get that transplant. I am determined to do what I can to raise awareness about organ donation and so together with my friend I have launched the Live Life Then Give Life campaign, in which we have designed T-shirts to encourage people to think and talk about their wishes. All proceeds from the T-shirts go to Transplants in Mind. The website is www.livelifethengivelife.co.uk

Please take a minute to look at the site, and if you can help us publicise this campaign by advertising it however you can, we would be incredibly grateful. This campaign may not be in time to save my life, but I am determined to try, and it will definitely save others. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with any questions.

Thank you for your time.

Organ donation . girl from england say yes!

Hi i'm twenty-eight now with a 2-year-old daughter, but ever since i was young and first read about organ donation, i always knew i wanted to do so, and have made that decision for my daughter while she's still young as well! I really don't see the problem once someone is dead to continue using part of them, it seems like that person would live on in someways and i believe that's a nice thing! I do feel though that some people are spiteful, 'their beloved died so why shouldn't you!' kind of thing. I believe that there is now a law to say that if you've registered to donate after your death, your family cannot over-ride that decision and i think that's good, but i also think that you should have a say in whom you want your organs to go to, i wouldn't like to give to another 'George Best', would anyone? Hope you find a doner in time. If you do, do you think you would like to contact the relations?

Running out of time but still positive

Hi Rosie,
I think the main problem in England is people just never getting round to actually joining the organ donor register. The majority of people support organ donation but only 22% are actually registered.
I have been very ill since my last post, my lung collapsed several times in July and I was left fighting for my life in intensive care, but contrary to the doctors expectations, I managed to pull back and am currently "stable". I have been waiting 19 months now and am desperately short of time. I campaign and raise awareness as much as I can but really my fate is in the hands of the public, I dont know what else I can do.

If I am lucky enough to get that gift of life, I would definitely want to write to the family, as I would want to offer them a glimpse of what an incredible thing they have done and what my life is like thanks to that decision.
I hope your daughter is well
