Beta blockers

My borther has been given propranolol for anxiety and has been taking it for three days. First day on it h was ok, but then yesterday he had his first cousnelling session, which sent him straight into an anxiety attack. He breathed his way out of it, but it has left him feeling very anxious.

Does anyone now how long the propranolol takes to start working? He's worn out and trying to be positive but feeling so tired isn't helping.
He has plenty of people for help, but still feels isolated, which I can understand as non' of us have really been through what he's going through.
Has anyone got any advice

Anxiety

Hi,

i was put on amyltriptiline for anxiety brought on post natally. It got so bad it was becoming increasingly difficult to even leave the house!
a year ago i bit the bullet and went to see a hypnotherepist. after around four sessions (which were not cheap!) i felt alot better and i have not had a panic attack since though i do still have very mild anxiety, but i do feel able to get on with life now and have lowered the dosage of pills in order to come off them altogether. just thought hypnotherepy may be the way to go!!

xx

Beta blockers

In my experience beta blockers work really well for calming people down. I used to taek them before I gave presentations as I got extremely worked up about them, but I eventually weaned myself off them.

Don't let him sleep too much

he may want to, but it's better for him if he stays awake and tries to do things, like starting hobbies or things like that. Getting plenty of sleep is good, but try not to let him sleep away his life, he'll just feel even worse, physically and mentally.

Look after him

I'm not familiar with the drug, but in my opinion, the best thing you can do for him is be there and look after him. Soothe him when he needs it and spoil him.
Also, hot baths work wonders, they used to be used to treat depressive back in the fifities and sixties. Won't hurt to try
