| Thread started by: | "Past life regression" Posted by sophy76 8 December at 17:57
Before I launch into this I'll tell you that I like to think of myself as an 'open-minded sceptic'...
I've always considered the past life phenomenon to be a load of nonsense... Clever, but batty people conning the really stupid into spendind money in return for a story about them being some famous historical figure in a former life... blah blah blah.
But just because I don't believe in it (have no proof), it doesn't mean I'm not interrested. There is quite a lot of conflicting information on the internet and I would love to hear some sofeminine readers' opinions!
Have any of you ever undergone past life regression? would you ever consider doing it? Do you think it is a load of nonsense or do you believe in the unknown?
The human brain is incredibly complex, and practically unchartered by modern medecin. Could it be possible that we generate false memories of places/times we have never experienced, or does one soul choose new bodies throughout eternity?
What do you recon???

My name is Simi and I sort of discovered this website. And I am ever so please to have done so. I hope I can interact with you wonderful people and learn and share experiences to enrich our minds and souls.
I hope I do not step on anyone's turf by writing a little bit about my pathetic meaningless and unsuccessful life. I am writing with great hope since this a 'sofeminine' site, a place where women can indulge in hours of complains and sweet anecdotes which would otherwise be impossible to share without getting the look which says'Women!'
I have been married for a year and I am miserable. I am convinced (as primitive as it may sound) that I am affected by black magic and someone out there wants me to be unhappy for the rest of my life. I am pretty lost in my realm of unhappiness and never ending agony. I do not know what to do. I have tried reaching out with the hope that perhaps I will find something to ease me out of this misery.I am looking for answers and the means to find a path, a definitive answer to all my questions and without any question marks.
I have searched high and low, within myself and out in the world but I am still as clueless as I probably was 23 years ago.
I believe in so many things but due to conflicting issues surrounding my existance I do not know what to believe in anything anymore.
But as with all things I must let myself heal and then start all over again.I want to go to a regression therapist in the UK. Any suggestions?
Much love, Sim

Mmmm, i'm not sure what i think to be honest. I seriously believed in all that sort of stuff and always fancied trying it but would probably be too scared as to what i would find out. I also believed in afterlife and spirits and stuff until my mum died and now i just dont know what to think. Me and mum had a big discussion before she died about how i was wanting a sign if anything special happens to me e.g get married, have a baby etc etc just so that i would know she was there with me. Now she has gone it really has made me question my believes, its just when you have such a close bond with someone and they die how could you be left with nothing, im always looking for things to happen but nothing ever does and that's why im seriously not sure anymore. What do you's think is there such a thing???

I did this with a lady hypnotherapist (not a psychiatrist) from Florida. I went with an open mind, just to try it, not expecting anything. I had never been hypnothized before.
It was rather fascinating. She asked me to find a reason for doing this and as I was in a rather troubled relationship at the time, we decided it might be a good idea to find out if the present problems might result from past lives problems.
The parameters set for the session were that I would only go back to lives where I had lived at least 15 years and that I would not experience anything overly upsetting.
I actually connected briefly with 2 or 3 past lives before I "found" the actual life involved. As I recall it, the images were rather blurred. We stayed much longer with the actual life involved until I started getting very vivid images and unhappy about some upsetting event that was going to take place. The therapist ended the session and brought me back to present time.
I that life, I saw myself as a young girl of 16 in a city which looked very much like York or Bergen in Norway. No one famous at all.
I didn't really know what to make of that experience until I bought a tape for practising past life regression on my own (that was gutsy or completely idiotic, I admit!!!). And the amazing thing was that I had chosen a totally different subject (a friend of mine and I wanted to find out if we had ever met in a previous life), but I ended up in a situation which led after a few minutes to exactly the same situation that had unfolded that time with the lady therapist.
I did that once more only. The tape I bought and which one uses for guidance goes too fast for my liking. The voice doesn't give enough time to explore the situations one ends up in.
Since then, I have learned hypnotherapy myself and I now use self-hypnosis for my own benefit. However, one cannot use self-hypnosis for past life regression. Nor do I feel the need to do it again.
I believe there is an energy (I don't know about soul) which is "us" and which enables us to experience several lifes but this conviction comes from another other experience I had, a spontaneous regression, which left me no doubt as to this reality. I would not, however, try to convince anyone else of that. Like all beliefs, it is a personal matter and the evidence we have cannot be transferred to anyone else.
As for choosing to do this with a psychiatrist rather than a regression therapist, I would choose the latter any time. They have much more experience in this and know exactly what to do if the session becomes difficult for the client.

Wow workingbee, I think that's really brave of you. I know what you mean about the voices being wrong for tapes liek that, I've done yoga and meditation tapes and it completely ruins the experience if the person's voice isn't right. You need to go at your own pace especially with something like past life regression, it must be a really big deal getting to grips with it. I think I'd like to do it, I'm not sure. xxx

Glad you agree about the time allowed to have one's own experience.
If you ever decide to do regression therapy (or just to find out what it is, like I did. It doesn't have to be therapy), make sure you have a good therapist to guide you. Ask around. Word of mouth is the best informer.
Good luck! W.B.

I don't think I'd want to know to be honest, it would freak me out too much. What about people with mental illness, it could have a serious effect on their state of mind.

no-one's forcing people to do it! Just might be interesting...

I thought it was rubish too, until I read a book (I can't for the life of me remember the title - anyone recognise it??) about a psychiatrist who was using hypotherapy to treat a client for something and ended up taking her back to several past lives, hundreds and thousands of years apart. I find it really interesting, like you say, who knows what's locked in the parts of the brain that we don't use at the moment? Maybe it's linked to the same processes as dreaming.
I think I would do past life regression, just to see what happened, but only if I was with a psychiatrist, not some random quack!
Just because we don't know much about something, doesn't mean it doesn't exist!
What does everyone else think?

the book is probably by dr. brian weiss, a psychiatrist now practicing in florida (USA). weiss has written many books on this subject over the years and has given many public lectures as well. many of his colleagues ostracized him for his unconventional thinking, but he has persevered. his first book, i believe, was Many Lives, Many Masters, or something like that. his earlier books are the best and his case studies are very convincing. two other authors who have worked and published extensively on this subject are dr. raymond moody, a psychiatrist in alabama (USA), and another doctor (pediatrician) whose name i'm blocking on right now but his fascinating book, The Past Lives of Children, was one of the first i read on the subject and the one that got me interested in the subject.
i've tried past life regression but am not a good subject for hypnosis and never got anywhere. with the tapes i did manage after MANY attempts to get brief glimpses of three past lives but other than being very intriging, and extremely memorable, they did not "teach" me anything about myself.
PL "therapy" has been successful with phobias and certain anxiety disorders. it's not recommended for serious disorders like the psychoses.
yes, a very "interesting" topic. i'm glad to see it discussed here.
don't see any spellcheck method here so here goes, errors and all. >smile<
