Memory problems

I am starting to get very worried about my short term memory. It is really starting to affect my work and home life. I often walk into a room and have no idea why i was there in first place. And at work I spend lots of time making lists to make sure i do not forget something.

Can anyone recommend the most effective way of exercising my memory to improve it? eg a good book, a computer program etc.

(I suspect my stress levels may have contributed to the state of my memory. I am looking to deal with this separately.)

I hope someone can help.......

Signs of stress

Hi Themac,
This is a well known side effect of stress and anxiety. It's something I had when I suffered with these and became depressed. My memory hasn't quite recovered to how it was before.

I noticed that it did improve when I did simple exercises such as remembering a birthdate to write down from a website onto an email. Often it would escape me but the more I tried to do this the better my memory became.

Unfortunately it's not something I get chance to practice a lot and when I lapsed so did my memory again.

Good luck with it.

Same thing happens to me

Hi,

I'm not really sure if I can help but I'd like to share that I have the same problem sometimes.

Yesterday (Monday), for example I forgot what I'd done over the weekend. And sometimes I go to the shop needing to get 2 or 3 items and I can only remember one of the items!

It really freaks me out, and I worry what I'm going to be like when I'm older (am in my thirties now).

I used to make lists all the time too but then recently I decided to stop making so many so that I could test out my memory. I figured that if I wrote stuff down, my memory wasn't doing any work. I'm not sure about this theory though.

If you come across any solutions I'd be keen to hear...
