Getting off medication

Hi
I have suffered from depression and anxiety in recent years and for the past 3 years I have been on anti-depressants (100mg Trazodone) and anti-anxiety tablets (2.5mg Olanzapine).

I now feel much, much better. I understand that I cannot simply stop taking these tablets, but.........

I was speaking to my therapist aho informed me that the anti-anxiety tablets can, oddly, actually cause anxiety. I have had therapy and my anxiety has been brought down to a manageable level, but there is still a little bit which holds me back. Maybe if I get off these tablets, I will fully improve? The 2.5mg is the lowest dose.

I've also heard that prolonged use of Olanzapine can cause diabetes- which terrifies me.

Also, I do not feel depressed in the slightest, and would like to get off those ones too.
I missed out on going to uni' this year as I was concerned about how I feel on these tablets, which cause me nausea.

I am seeing my specialist in 2 weeks, but she is very laid back and hardly listens to me. I need to get off these tablets ASAP, but can't face the withdrawal effects.

Do you have any advice?

Thank you

Hi

well it sounds like you have really put in the work-good on you-just be really really self aware as you withdraw medication(with your docs approval and supervision of course) and any difficulties like increased anxiety etc -get onto it imedietly-sometimes the medication is doing more than you realise and when you stop it it can be a jolt...i know people who have been on olanzapine long term and have no problems with diabetes...also there are treatments for side effects such as nausea-i know you want to be med free- but if you need it for a while longer-look into something for the nausea and while youre at it - shop for a specialist you can relate to- that is so important to your recovery - i wish you well and hope it all goes really well for you xx
