Anti-depressants

My teenage sister has just been put on anti-depressants. I was wondering if anyone knew how long it will take for her to start feeling better? She's takinng Paroxatine and is also going to start weekly cognitive therapy sessions newt week. I've heard this form of therapy is very effective.
QUestioning the wisdom behind putting someone so young (she's 14) on anti-depressant drugs, but at the moment we just want her to feel better.

Any help appreciatedx

Your sister

Hi,

Firstly, I want to say how glad I am it has been acknowledged and that everyone realises there is a problem.
So many children and teens go on living unhappily without anyone realising.

I would like to mention that although she is 14 and its a very young age, age has nothing to do with being on antidepressants - unfortunately it can either be something that has happened in her life that is making her low or it could just be a natural chemical embalance in which case its just like a diabetic having to take medicine to keep the levels satisfactory.

I am also on antidepressants and have been for just over a year .... they have helped me so much.

The docor has tried bringing me off them gradually but my body obviously isn't ready for that yet so I am still on them.

Sometimes they clear it up but for others its something they may have to take for a very long time if its a chemical embalance (like I have)

I do hope she starts feeling the medicinal effects of the medicine she is on - you should hopefully see a wonderful change in her soon!

All the best

With much care...

It does take a good while for an antidepressant to kick in , the usual side effects ranging from nausea to dizziness to drowsiness as well are all part and parcel of its sedative effects .An anti depressant is not a drug to toy with and your sister has to follow her doctor's prescription : gradually adding then gradually withdrawing for withdrawal symptoms can be serious .I'm sure she'll be feeling much better altogether with that therapy .
Good luck and best wishes for a better health

Antidepressant

hi, there is a lot of informatiokn on the internet if you go into seroxat, you will then see that this is the worst antidepressant there is, please get her to try another if she really does need it, it is bad for under 18 and there has been a lot of sucides, i was on it for 10 years and have been off it for 16 months and the withdrawal is really bad, dont believe the withdrawal syndrome, it does not last just a couple of weeks, please read up on this drug, good luck
