My boyfriend suffers from double depression...what can i do that will help him?

we have been dating for about 5 months now...2 weeks of that we were broken up but than got back together. i care bout him dearly and want to help him get through this. he isnt depressed all the time but when he is its hard to know what to do or say. i worry that i might say something to make it worse. i try and be there for him. i care about him alot. what can i do to help him?

before i met him he has a girlfriend of 2 years...than he went on a mission and she "dear john"ed him. he was really in love with her and was devastated when it happened. it was the thing that ended up pushing him over the edge and he got depression... he started cutting shortly after and has seen counseling. they had him come home and not even a week after he came home he met me. we started hanging out and hit it off. i sorta new he had depression but didnt realize how bad it was. lately it has seemed to be getting better slowly but also recently his friends havent really been friends. talking smack...planning activities without him...and its started to take its toll on him. he is starting to get back into getting depressed...i keep trying to show him he doesnt need them...tell him to make new friends...and that he has me and his family. but idk if that is enough. is there anything else i can do to help him? or am i doing ok by just listening and being there for him. i love him so much!

Hope this helps.

Your boyfriend could have mild depression if he's able to come out of it and then it hits him again some weeks later. Usually depression doesn't come and go like this, it's constant.

For mild cases of depression he could try St John's Wort which he can get from health food shops. If he thought of it as a supplement he might be more inclined to take it. Men can be difficult over things like this.

Drugs and alcohol won't help him. Alcohol is actually a depressant so will be gradually making him worse.

Taking responsibility off him can help because we feel this as pressure which makes the depression feel worse but you can't make much lasting difference if he isn't doing something to help himself.
Hope things all work out for you.

I have read what you write..Honestly, it a common behavior of human. When they have broken heart, broken socialization..

I believe that your friend NOT depression. Don't make assume easily about depression..He only need some adaptation with his "new world", more over he has a girl 2 years ago...hmmm..need more adaptation..

that you must be done..take care, make him depend on you..be patience towards your boyfriend..

At any time, you must talk to him..find the comfort place, like park, beach etc..talk to him seriously but DONT make him to think hard..easy, calm, and peaceful..

Invite them to relaxation..Remember, relaxation is the best way to reducing almost of living problem..

about ho to do relaxation, i will back soon..
