In France, Morgan sells real rabbit fur jackets. They looked exactly like our fake versions, but felt much better. At least big brands know it's a sensitive issue.

Whole thread for the following message:

Thread started by:
"Are rabbits farmed for fur coats?"
Posted by missmachin 10 December  at  15:58

I know it's not big in this country, but I was having a an argument with a European friend the other day who just kept saying, 'yes well, we eat them (we don't eat much of them here!) so why shouldn't we wear them as well? The skin would only be thrown away otherwise'.
Rabbit fur used in clothes comes from fur farms, right? Not like leather which is a by-product of farming cows for meat, isn't it?

Where does everyone stand on this? I know i'm a bit off-thread here and so the response is likely to be negative in the 'Pets' strand!!

i think that its really mean to kill an animal for its goods.
i think its just like killing a human and its a mean and cruel thing to do
i dont wear rabbit coats because i think to my self " what if i were him ao her i wouldnt wantsomebody wearin me "
i just don tsee how people can kill an animal because in some kindof way there related to us adn i think it would feel as i fu were killing a family member and i think that it s wrong

Rabbit tastes good!! And the fur is nice and soft too, really can't see the problem with this.

"Is leather really a product of the meat industry?"
Posted by dumdidum5 10 December  at  16:03

that's a lot of leather!
"As far as i know"

rabbits are farmed for fur, it's not just taken when they are killed for meat.
Personally I would never wear fur, I think it's inappropriate, disrespectful and ugly.

But each to their own :/
"Eastern europe"

I lived in eastern Europe for a while and in the winter it's so cold that it's the only thing that does the job. Real fur keeps you warmer than anything else when it's -10 outside, however realistic the imitation it just isn't the same, which is why people started wearing it in the first place!

There's always the old argument of leather shoes etc. - not many people stop to think about what they're wearing on their feet... Could it possibly because animals farmed for fur are cut, cuddly and..furry? Heaven forbid!

I know you're not going to like this email, but thought I'd play devil's advocate...
