hi, my cat has only just passed away aswell. he was 11 months old, but he died in his sleep. i get along by thinking that at least he can have all the rest he wants now. but we have a little plaque in our garden with his name on it, so whenever we miss him we go to the plaque, and it feels af if hes with us again.

Whole thread for the following message:

It was this november 18th at about 11:30pm. My mum picked him up to cuddle him and he had a stroke or heart attack in her arms and died.
It was so unexpected because he was predicted to lvie until he was 18 years of age and he died at the age of 4 and a half.
There were no signs on the morning; he was chirpy and (being a VERY talkative cat) he was meownig at me all morning. I came down to get my breakfast and he ran in to greet me meowing at me as I replied. "My little boy aren't you?" he meowed back and i just chuckled to myself. He was babbling on while I was spreading the butter. He followed me into the living room and sat next to me as I watched some morning TV. That was the last time I saw him. My parents told me that the last thing he was doing was relaxing in the sun and rolling around on the seat in the consevatory. He was happy and we were all unaware of what was to come.
I just can't get over why there was no signs. It's never been this hard with other pets because I was kind of prepared seeing as they were at their maximum age. They were old and it's expected; but Thomas was so young. I'm not ready to let him go yet and yet he's gone.
My other cat Hamish has taken things rough. He's a little bit older, about 5 going on 6. We left Hamish in the conservatory with Thomas an hour after he had died, so he knows what has happened and why he wasn't going to be around. He walked in the room and we closed the door as he approached his baby brother. A nudge of his own nose against Thomas' and he begins to clean Thomas' face. The slow realisation follows after trying to play fight and get any kind of reaction. Thomas would normally roll over and play with him but today he didn't. Hamish spent maybe half an hour alone with him and we all watched, tears welling in our eyes at the hurt of our other cat.

Any advice on this is appreciated and I know some people may see this as "just a cat" but he was family and it hurts to see his bowl still full and for the imprint on the top of the sofa where he would sleep all day and then fall onto your head when he fell asleep. Hamish keeps going back to the conservatory to see if Thomas has come back yet. It hurts me so badly to see him this way.

Thanks x x x

We scatterred his ashes yesterday, it was very emotional, he was a part of the family. I'm sorry for your loss as I know how painful it can be and a shock at such a young age, I think I'm coming to terms with losing Thomas now and I caught myself smiling when thinking of his antics. It was nice spending time with him, I'm sure that when reflecting on your cat's life, you can say he changed your life for the better.
Thinking of you at this difficult time,
