Card-making

Hi,
Does anyone else make cards?
I really enjoy and have been doing it for years for friends and family and have always been meaning to go into busines and run it as a sideline, as I work part-time already and have 2 kids.
Has anyone done anything like this?
Also where do you get your supplies, I just collect things and get creative with what I've already got, but if anyone knew of any websites, of shops in the Lizard, I'd be very grateful!

thanks,
milly

Card making

Hi
I love making cards and have for a few years now. I was doing it as a sideline but took the plunge as a full time business a couple of months ago. Someone suggested I got a hot foil machine to add a bit more proffesional look and i haven't looked back! I do loads of wedding orders and cards and get work through personally recomendations. I still get bits from hobbycraft and ebay though.
If you ever want to explore the hot foil option yourself I dealt with a really nice bloke called Karl at a company called metallic elephant. He really took the time to go though things with me and it made all the difference. His website is www.metallicelephant.co.uk
good luck if you give it a go.

Card making

Hi there folks. New to Sofeminine and only just discovered the hobbies section.

I absolutely love card making and am lucky enough to have my own craft room. I don't have a large family or a huge number of friends I send cards to so I make a lot for charity.

My favourite techniques are decoupage and rubber stamping and I use a lot of CDs too. Favourite site is probably Joanna Sheen but I have a whole list of others in my favourites folder.

I am considering treating myself to a diecutting machine for Christmas. There is a new one due out soon but Quickutz - the EpicSix. Bit more expensive than some but looks good.

Loads of great craft making cds

hiya
I make cards but mostly for friends & family like you. I have found someone that does loads of great craft cardmaking cds. I have already bought a couple and still deciding on what to get next.Have a look here http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZbubblesgoesawol-

Hope this helps
Best wishes

Hi

Hi ive been making cards for a few years now along with my gran. I sell them to family and friends. We get all of our stuff from either on QVC on the tv or a great site we have come across is artycrafts-online.co.uk

Crafts

I could do card making but sometimes i don't have the money to go buy them because i don't have a job.

Hi and welcome!

Hi Milly

I have just started out my own business making cards & gifts.
I go to hobbycraft, Partners & Mellbicks for all my stuff. Car boots are always interesting and you can pick up stuff cheap there.
I have a son who lives away and a daughter who is 16 and at college full time so i have a lot of spare time to create new ideas.

Hope to keep in touch and exchange ideas with you

Card making

To all you card makers! I too LOVE card making. What started out as making a few cards for friends and relatives has turned into a mind blowing hobby! I've now created a website with a couple of friends to share card making ideas. Check it out...it's www.smartartcards.com . We think its a brilliant website. See what you think!

Website smartartcards

Hi Denisev

checked out the smartartcards website, what a great idea ! I will join in the next few days. Where did you get such a fantastic idea ? your designs look really good, you and your friends are an inspiration! Just what is needed on the net... Eleanor

It's addictive

Hi
i started out like you making cards for family and friends with the intention of selling a few cards to make some money. I now have 2 children a full time job and a growing Craft mail order & website buisness. Once you start making cards you just can't stop.
I was so impressed with some of the goods I bought to make cards I decided to offer them as kits and packs for other people I now have over 300 different die cut shapes as well as peel offs ribbon and loads of other stuff which i use and sell.

Visit my website http://www.patch-corner-crafts2004.co .uk and let me know what you think.

Another card maker!

Hi Milly,

I also make cards and I'm just starting scrapbooking, I run a cardmaking group in West Lothian and will be starting classes in the Autum. I also have an on-line craft shop with Free P&P www.crafting-mad.co.uk so don't get as much time to do as much cardmaking as I would like.

It is such an addictive hobby but you get such a sence of achievement when you have finished a project. I just love it when people tell me they "aren't artistic" and then see the look on their faces when the produce a lovely card.

Happy crafting.

A fellow cardmaker

Hi Milly,

I'm a fellow cardmaker too. I'm like you, in that I have two kids and work, so its a part time thing for me. I started making cards about a year ago, after I ran out of events to scrapbook. I find it very relaxing, and people really seem to like receiving handmade cards.

I've started a small business making and selling cards. So far I've done a craft show and sold some Christmas cards on E-Bay. I just put up my web site (www.leslynkrauscards.com)a few days ago. I currently only have a few cards for sale, because I've sold all of my Christmas cards (about 80 - and I refuse to make another Christmas card :>, but I'm working on rebuilding my inventory.

I get a lot of my materials (rubber stamps, dies for my Sizzix and Quickutz, etc.) off E-Bay and other from other internet sellers. The prices on the net (especially for stamps and quickutz dies - which I love) are often much less than in a retail store. You just need to know your prices - especially before you bid on E-Bay. I'm also fortunate to have a couple very nice, reasonably priced scrapbook stores nearby to get paper from. I like to be able to see and touch the paper before I buy, unless its a brand and pattern I'm familiar with.

I'm glad to have found this board, because I've been wanting to meet some other people who share my interest in cardmaking.

If you want a few more shops I can dig out the information she posted, or I can give you my web site address.

You're always reading about people who have done stuff like that and turned it into a successful business in the glossies, but they never say how you do it, exactly! I'd love to know.
