Cat litter trays

Hi,
Where does everyone put their cat litter trays?
In the kitchen by the back door is the most practical place, but I really don't like having it in the same room while I'm preparing food.
The only other alternative is in the hall but that makes the whole house smell.
Any ideas?!

In the kitchen

I had a special doorless recess built in when we had the kitchen re-done. The litter box is the kind that looks like a little house, so it is very discrete ( cats like their privacy ! ), and I use the kind of litter that turns the you-know-what into clumps that are easy to remove. It doesn't smell, except when the weather is very hot. Besides, the litter is sold in carboard boxes which are easier to store than bags.

Good idea

The clumpy litter works really well. I have two cats and swear by it, although I agree that unless you have a special area like LadyAnne it's a bit unpleasant having it in the kitchen. Porches are ideal.
