I'm about half-way through this, I haven't been able to put it down all weekend.
Although it's a very sad story, I'm finding it extremely enjoyable - has anyone else read it?

I've read some of her other novels, I really enjoyed The Siege (felt cold all the way through!) and Your Blue-Eyed Boy. I love her writing style and attention to detail, she clearly does her research and her characters are very well-thought out.

After reading an article on the Guardian website about how women's writing was 'dull and unimaginative' I defy anyone to read Helen Dunmore and think the same! In fact and so angry am going to start another thread about it!

Shame

I really enjoyed it, it's a shame you didn't get on with it. It is very moving, but I can see how the emotionalism turned you off.

Mourning ruby

Yes, I've read it, it's a moving story. Helen Dunmore is one of my favourite writers. Hope she writes another soon.
