Cold mountain

Hi,
I'm reading Cold Mountain at the moment, I haven't seen the film and want to finish the book first. AT found it quite hard to get into, but am really enjoying it now...I can see why it was made into a film as it's very 'visual'...
Has anyone else read it recently? What did you think?

I know what you mean about it being visual, it could almost have been written as a screenplay first and then re-done as a novel. I've just got to the bit where Inman stays with Sara in her cabin and saves the days when the raiders take her pigs and chickens.. I haven't seen the film either, but I could really imagine it on the big screen!

I finished the Bridges of Madison County in tears on Friday... it was such a moving story, very tightly written and plotted. It had more of an impact on me than several books I've read three or four times it's size...
