I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I felt sorry for him too, he fell for the glamourous eighties lifestyle lead by the politician, and also a very different glamourous eighties lifestyle lead by his lover (can't remember his name)...really well-written.
I heard it was being made into a film.

Has anyone read this book? It's incredibly well written and the central character is very finely drawn. You end up feeling sorry for him by the end of the book except that you can see, about half way through that he's making some big mistakes - like outstaying his welcome with his friends.
