archies birth story

Well as you all know I went for my routine 40 week appointment on Mon only to discover Archie was breech, I was booked in Tues to try and turn him which didnt work so was booked in for a C-Sec on Thurs.

I had to go in Wed night for a pre C-Sec injection. I returned Thurs at 745am and was shown straight to my bed where I had to change into my gown. The MW, Aneaesthetist, and student doc came and chatted to me. There were 2 of us booked in and I was 2nd at about 1030.

I got the call at 1000 and had to walk to theatre which was on a completely different floor!! We sat in a waiting room for what seemed forever and then were called in. I sat in the bed and some woman tried to place an I/V catheter, she was viscious and it really hurt!! It took her 2 goes!! I then had my back numbed and the epidural placed, I didnt feel a thing. I was placed on my back and my belly was scrubbed, the screens were put up and the next thing I knew they had started.

Archie was born at 10:50am, he and Matt were whisked away for him to clean him.

Next thing I know they are pumping me full of drugs, putting me on oxygen, using the suction A LOT and throwing the phrase blood transfussion around!!

What had happened was my uterus wasnt contracting AT All and I was continually bleeding, to a dangerous point!! I was getting very spaced and feeling very sick, I didnt think things were right!!

Matt bought Archie back which sort of took my mind of the situation.

Anyway the whole procedure too over 2 hours, and I lost over TWICE as much blood as you would in a normal c-sec. They eventually stitched me up, cleaned me and took me too recovery where I held Archie for the first time. We stayed there for about 30 mins then went back to the ward.

I am covered in blisters from my pressure bandage and am still quite painful, but we are home now and I am so pleased with him, he is absolutely adorable. I will post some pics for you to see (they are on FB already).

Anyway, sorry for the LONG story but it wasnt as straight forward as we thought it was going to be!!

Take care to you all
