Iron supplement

Hi ladies,

Just wondering if any of you have been prescibed iron supplements to take? Im 23w3d gone and my doctor gave me iron tablets to take from 18w but to be honest - and I hope this doesnt sound really bad and selfish - but I keep forgetting to take them every day.

I do remember most days but alot of the time it slips my mind and there would be an odd day I wouldnt remember so basically I'm just wanting to know how bad this is i.e. am I putting my baby at risk by not taking them properly because if that was the case then I'd wise up.

Any ideas or opinions?

Thanks for your replies xoxoxox

Hello

it depends if you were given the iron tablets as a precautionary measure or because you were anemic. If you are anemic, then you should try and remember taking them because iron deficiency can lead to small birth weight for babies and much heavier blood losses for you, among other things. And you'll feel much less tired/short of breath by taking them regularly too.
I've been on iron tablets because i'm anemic for the past 2 months, and because I bled very heavily after the birth of my boy last time round, when I wasn't anemic, I don't want to take any chances and take them religiously but that might just be me being a bit paranoid!!!
good luck ith the rest of your pregnancy

Heya

Is a iron supplement same as iron tablets?

Im on iron tablets- 2 aday & also forget to take them! It is quiet important that you take them as you need your iron stores for the birth with the amount of blood loss you have.
If you havent enough iron at the birth you may have to have a blood transfusion.

Try to eat foods high in iron too like beetroot, orange juice with every meal.

Hope this helps
