Benefit help/sure start grant

Hi, i was wondering if anyone knows the exact rules regarding the sure start mat grant. My partner and I are both on benefit's atm meaning I am entitled to the mat grant. My partner is doing a 6week job through the job centre unpaid but they want my partner to sign up with the agency as they want to keep him on as they are really chuffed with him.

Problem is I have no money and I really need the grant for the new baby. I already have a lil boy so I shall be looking after him when my partner works. If the job is for min wage, 40 hrs per week we should be entitled to working tax credit and child tax, am I correct?

Does that mean I will still get the grant? Im confused because we have never claimed child tax and working tax together. The site says something about child element higher than family element (i think). So confused...Please help

Thankyou,

Thanks

My boyfriend is going to the jobcentre on friday to ask his adviser for the full print out of what we are able to receive. We aren't living together atm but are hoping to move in together before bubba arrives.

Thanks again

Heya

Your best off booking an appointment with the jobcentre & they will tell you what you can claim & roughly how much.

I think if you cant claim it before the babies born cos your not on the right benefits you may be able to after its born.

Once your partner starts a job you should be able to claim child tax credits, working tax credits, child benefit. It may not be alot tho has it just tops your partners wage up.

Hope this helps

you wont be entitled to working tax unless you are both working, but should be entitled to child tax, i found the best thing to do is apply for everything that way the most that can happen is they say no xx

Hey

hiya, I think your best bet is to contact citizens advice. They should be able to tell you wat and how much you are entitled to. You can also go to entitledto.co.uk i think it is and fill in their online calculator.

Me and my husband are also in a similar situation where I am not working. He works about 36 hours a week and we would still be entitled to working tax credits and child tax credits.

Good luck!
