My birth story.....at last!

Hi ladies

Sorry its taken so long, dont know where the last week has gone. Word of warning for the expectant mummies out there-get ready for your house to be invaded by visitors once your little one arrives!!

Sooooo.......I started getting pains at about 11.30pm Friday 19th June, i put on the TENS which i found really helped. At about 1.30 we called out the MW as they were coming quite frequently although the pain wasnt too bad. She decided i wasnt in active labour so suggested taking some paracetamol and going back to bed for some rest. I tried to do this but was quite hard as although my contractions slowed down a lot, i was still getting woken up about every 15mins by one!

At about 7AM my mum got me up and moving about to try and speed the labout up a bit, the MW came back out at 9.30 AM and confirmed i was now 4cm dialated and in active labour. As i was a planned home birth the MW stayed with me from then on which was so reassuring. labour progressed throughout the day, if not a little bit slowly. At about 2pm i started on the gas and air which was lush!!! i carried on walking around the house to try and get the baby to move down.
At 6PM i got in the pool which was sooo relaxing, was chatting away to mum and OH in between the contractions and having lots of gas and air when i did have them! At about 10.30pm i was still only 8cm so the MW broke my waters, and unfortunately there was mecconium in them so i had to go to hospital. Got to labout ward at 11pm, and at 12pm i was fully dialated and was told to push, Euan James Iorwerth Jenkins arrived at 1.14Am on the Sunday

My total labour lasted about 17 hrs, and although i didnt get to have him at home i was glad i started there as i was in labour for quite a while. I only had gas and air which i was well pleased with, and although i had a 2nd degree tear the MW said it was really small and to be honest i havent really had much pain with it.

Euan is a gorgeous little boy and i'm really loving being a mummy, although have found it all a little bit overwhelming at times.

Sorry for such a long rambling post......please blame it on the lack of sleep!

Love Kate and Euan 1 week! xxx

PS i have posted some pics up x

Congratulations

Hey Kate,
well done and welcome to baby Euan. This is such a lovely name. How much did he weight?
Home births are great and although you had to go in I agree with you that being able to stay at home as long as it was possible was the best thing for you. So less stressful!
I had forgotten about visitors... . I'll definitely be more firm this time round about when people can visit... or will I?
Enjoy your little man, they are growing so quickly.
