Hi
Firstly can i say i wouldnt worry too much about the midwife wanting to see you again before she goes on holiday, im pretty sure that if she had any concerns about you or baby she would see you sooner than that.
Secondly in relation to packing a bag for hospital, im not sure how the system works were you live but in my area you will only be allowed to go home after 6 hours if you have a morning delivery as they dont discharge babies on an evening as they say the sudden drop in temperature isnt good for baby.
Also i dont want to worry you but i would def pack a bag for you and baby with enough stuff in for a couple of days just incase things dont go to plan. Theres nothing worse than having a baby and having to stop in hospital and having nothing with you, if you dont need it you can always bring it all back home again.
I had my last baby early and because of problems at the birth and with her having jaundice we ended up staying in a lot longer than i thougt we would. It wasnt good having to rely on my hubby to fetch in clean knickers etc, some men, especially mine, dont seem to realise what clothes women need, who has ever heard of a woman giving birth and then wearing frilly thongs lol, also as my hubby doesnt drive he spent a fortune going backwards and forwards between the hospital and home to pick up things for me.
I always think its better to air on the side of caution just incase and that way you and you partner can concentrate on spending time with baby rather than worrying if you have enough nappies and clean clothes.
Wishing you all the best.
